Auditions for student-directed play set for Monday night

Come try out for a student-directed play, Falling, about family and how to love others who are difficult to love.

Audition information:

  • When: 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27
  • Where: Bauman Greenroom
  • Casting needs: Three women, two men
  • Please come prepared with a 90-second contemporary dramatic monologue

Come hear talk on cosmology and theology tonight in EHS 102

Phil Smith, professor of philosophy, will give a lecture for the Science and Religion Club tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m. in EHS 102. All are welcome to join us!

Professor Smith will be introducing some interesting theological speculations that have come out recently regarding science and cosmology, and if we are really lucky he might even talk about aliens. Also, there will be pizza!

New in Canyon Commons: Option to purchase a salad bar only

As part of our wellness commitment, Bon Appetit is now offering the option to purchase just a salad bar meal during lunch in the dining room. The price will be $6.50 and will be paid for in the Bridge Café.

At the time of purchase, you’ll be given a take-out container for your salad. Just show your receipt to the cashier and you’re on your way to a delicious and healthy lunch!

Join in Collegiate Day of Prayer Thursday

On Thursday, Feb. 23, we invite you to join us in the George Fox University Collegiate Day of Prayer. There is not an on-campus event connected to this day of prayer. Our families have been invited to pray for the students, faculty and administration of George Fox when and where they have time.

Registration open for ‘Beat Baker’ 5K run on March 18

Come run against President Robin Baker in the first “Beat Baker” 5K run throughout Newberg on Saturday, March 18, at 8 a.m.

The race entry is only $10 for students and $25 for the general public and includes a T-shirt and access to the health fair expo to follow. In addition, those beat President Baker in the race will receive a sticker and bragging rights. Consider joining us in promoting health and wellness while raising funds to continue bettering health care in Yamhill County and beyond.

You can register for the run here. The event is part of a Health and Wellness Week (March 13-18) that includes nutrition, exercise and behavioral classes, a Corporate Games competition, 5K and 10K runs, and a pool party for children with special needs. More on the week is available at this link.

Registration for the 2017 Summer Online term at George Fox is now open! Space is limited to 20 students per class, and some are filling up quickly (though all currently have room for more students).

All online courses are offered at 50 percent off tuition, a huge savings, and are taught by experienced George Fox professors. The courses range from required general education options in Bible all the way through math, nutrition, psychology, English, music and more! Check out the options at this link.

Tips on managing stress offered at today’s workshop

Stress is a constant in our lives, but how we manage stress can change the quality of life. Today (Wednesday), the Academic Resource Center will host a workshop, “My Computer Crashed, My Project is Lost, and I’m out of Detergent: Strategies for Managing Stress,” that will help you learn how to manage stress and use it to your advantage.

Members of our Health and Counseling Center staff will be our presenters. Join us from 3 to 3:50 p.m. in Stevens 109.

PT hosts banquet, silent auction as fundraiser for Africa trip

A group of George Fox physical therapy students will be going on a medical missions trip to Africa May 30 to June 13, and we are organizing a banquet/silent auction to help raise money for the trip!

The university community is welcome to attend the banquet and auction at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 12, in Canyon Commons. Tickets are $25 and cover the cost of dinner and one entry into a random drawing for a gift basket. All proceeds go directly to our trip.

At the dinner, we will auction off various gift baskets and gift certificates generously donated by community members and businesses. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by contacting Jessica Dinielli (jdinielli15@georgefox.edu). Can’t make it to the banquet but would like to donate? You can do so at this link.
