It’s time for Phase II again

Thursday, April 21st, 2016

At the end of every school year many students have good reusable items that they do not want to take home over the summer, including blankets, clothing, kitchen supplies, small appliances, radios, room decorations, furniture, etc.

In an effort to keep the dumpsters from overflowing and to be better stewards of the resources, Phase II was initiated. We are happy to receive reusable items that students do not want to take home starting on April 22 and going through May 2 at 4 p.m.

The items gathered are sorted and made available to summer students and staff, with the remainder of the items being given to different organizations in the local area, such as Rescue Mission, Unwed Mothers Homes, Love Inc., and Goodwill.

Barrels will be placed in or near central living areas …

  • On the porches or patios of Weesner, Riley, Chapman, Hoskins, Armstrong, Campbell, Fulton St., Villa Rd., Gail, Kershner, Barclay and Wilder houses
  • In the dorm lobbies of Edwards, Pennington, Le Shana, Brandt, Coffin, Hobson, Macy and Sutton
  • Outside of the first floor of Beebe, Carey and Willcuts
  • Near Woolman 2-3, Winters 201-2 and Newlin apartments
  • In Lewis and Weesner Village laundry rooms

Please look for and use these barrels as you prepare to leave at the end of school.

  • Please do not place trash in the barrels labeled “Phase II.”
  • Please do not donate undergarments, socks, damaged or soiled items
  • Do not donate large appliances or furniture such as couches, arm chairs and beds
  • Do not place food or chemicals in the barrels. Place these items in a box or bag next to the barrels.

There are large drop boxes for your trash located strategically on campus. By law, computers, monitors and TVs cannot go into the trash. They can be place beside the barrels. Please note if it is broken.

Questions? Contact Dwayne Astleford (dastlefo@georgefox.edu).

Have a great summer and may the Lord bless you as you go!

Consider leading an eight-week Fall Life Group

Thursday, April 21st, 2016

The Office for Spiritual and Intercultural Life is looking for post-college Life Group leaders for our eight-week Fall Life Groups (the weeks of Sept. 19 to Nov. 7.)

Life Groups are small groups of undergraduate students who meet together for prayer, Bible study and fellowship. Groups meet weekly for 60 to 90 minutes at the time and location of your choosing. Participants will select the group they wish to participate in based on the details that leaders provide.

Groups are encouraged to use one of three curriculum options recommended by the Office for Spiritual and Intercultural Life that parallel other themes that are being explored in chapel. We welcome our employees, alumni, family members of George Fox employees and students, and members of our wonderful local churches to consider leading a group.

Our fall leader meeting will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from noon to 1:30 p.m., and lunch will be provided. For more information and to sign up, visit our webpage.

Come check out a different Square 1 meeting tonight

Thursday, April 21st, 2016

The Gospel. Worship. Fun. Square 1 is a completely student-led chapel elective (meaning you get credit) designed to get back to the simple, core elements of faith in Christ, to start “back at square one.”

We’ll meet at the Foxhole tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m. From there, the plan this week is different than normal. Check the Square 1 Facebook page for more information or just show up and be surprised!

Voter registration and information

Thursday, April 21st, 2016

During this election year, we encourage students to get informed, involved and engaged locally, regionally and nationally! With the Oregon primaries rapidly approaching, there are some opportunities to be aware of.

First, on Monday, April 25, the nonpartisan League of Women Voters will be in the Bruin Den from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to get registered to vote.

Second, there will be two tables in the Bruin Den from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26 (the last day to register for the Oregon primaries) for the purpose of creating space for those who would like to put out fliers regarding their local, regional or national candidates of choice.

Finally, the bulletin board outside of the Bruin Store is now available to post political posters. Students who would like to post something about a particular candidate must have the poster stamped by ASC (though this in no way implies endorsement of a particular candidate).

Please note that George Fox University and ASC do not endorse any particular candidate or political party, but we are simply providing opportunities to encourage civic engagement.
