Newberg FISH available as resource for students

Thursday, January 28th, 2016

Do you know a student who may benefit – or have family members that may benefit – from access to fresh produce as well as staple foods (rice, pasta, tortillas, canned vegetables, etc.)?

If so, keep Newberg FISH in mind as a resource. FISH provides food assistance in a respectful way to all those who come in and voice a need. They have a rule that they never turn anyone away.

To be eligible for a full food basket (with USDA food) there are some basic income restrictions, and a student must live in Newberg or Dundee. However, even students who do not meet these standards are eligible to receive the non-USDA food selection available at FISH.

A student simply needs to take a piece of his or her mail to the office. No Social Security numbers or intrusive personal details are collected. All FISH materials are available in English and Spanish.

To learn more about FISH, visit their website at newbergfish.org or write info@newbergfish.org. The office is located at 125-A S. Elliott Road in Newberg.

Showcase your innovation and creativity with Side Quest

Thursday, January 28th, 2016

The Students for Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship (S.I.D.E.) are hosting an exciting event on Saturday, Feb. 13. Side Quest will be a day dedicated to rapid innovation and creativity. If you want to have fun inventing for a day (and the chance to win some cash) you should participate in this event!

Registration for Side Quest is now open. Teams can have between three and eight members, two of whom need to be from each the College of Engineering and the College of Business. You can also register as an individual and we (S.I.D.E.) will try to place you in a team. However, registered teams have priority over individual registrations, so being on a team is more likely to guarantee your participation.

Get your team fast because we are limiting the event to 12 teams. Registration will proceed on a first-come, first-served basis. Teams and individuals that will be participating will be informed through an email after registration has closed (which is whenever we get enough teams, so it could be any day before Feb. 13).

Register by clicking this link.

Meal info for Klages during Scholarship Competition

Wednesday, January 27th, 2016

Tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday we are expecting approximately 500 high school students and parents to join us for several meals during Scholarship Competition. They will be eating lunch in the dining room both days. Our busiest times will probably be between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., so to avoid long lines we would encourage our meal plan students to try to come before or after that time period.

We will be serving both of these meals on disposable paper plates so that you may take your food out of the dining room. The Cap and Gown Room will be available for overflow seating. Thanks for your help as we work to make this a wonderful experience for our visitors and prospective students.

Questions? Contact Lisa Miles at lmiles@georgefox.edu.
