Reminder to tell students about World Vision meeting

World Vision is looking for students from a variety of majors who are interested in global development, child advocacy and relief work to serve as interns this summer in one of their four stateside offices.

More than 50 percent of their interns are hired full time by the organization. The IDEA Center will be hosting an information session today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. in Stevens 207. If you know of students who would be well suited for this type of job opportunity, please encourage them to attend.

Less than three weeks to Housing Selection

Housing selection for the 2015-16 academic year will begin in just under three weeks, on Monday, March 16. Now is the time to be thinking about the following questions:

  1. Who do you want to live with? Group sizes can range from 2-6 people. Please refer to the “How to Choose a Roommate” resource on the Housing and Residence Life website.
  1. Where do you want to live? The size of your group will determine what housing options are available.
  1. Have you paid your $150 housing deposit? To participate in housing selection each student will need to pay a housing deposit to Student Accounts by 5 p.m. on March 19. Students asked to live with an RA will also need to pay this deposit to secure their spot in housing.

Play ‘Eleemosynary’ performed this Friday and Saturday in MLRC

See the library theatrically transform into a world where a girl wins the National Spelling Bee, with the word she feels responsible for: “Eleemosynary” (a noun, meaning charitable, or the giving of alms). The play explores the pain and love of family relationships from the perspective of three generations of women.

Eleemosynary plays Friday and Saturday nights, Feb. 27 and 28, at 8:30 p.m. in the Murdock Learning Resource Center. The production is being presented by George Fox theatre’s honor society, Alpha Psi Omega.

The play, written by Lee Blessing and directed by Cambria Herrera, runs for an hour and 15 minutes. Tickets are $5 and are sold at the door. First come, first serve.

Wear your Bruin gear and support women’s basketball Thursday

All staff, faculty and students are encouraged to wear their Bruin gear all day tomorrow (Thursday) to support our women’s basketball team as they compete in the Northwest Conference Championship Tournament that evening in Miller Gymnasium.

The top-seeded Bruins will host the fourth-seeded Whitman Missionaries at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the tournament semifinals. If they win, they will advance to the tournament finals at 7 p.m. on Saturday here at home. The tournament champion from the conference automatically qualifies to participate in the NCAA National Tournament.

Students still have free entry into the game, but the Northwest Conference requires employees to pay admission. Ticket prices can be seen here.

Sports Career and Internship Fair is today

Interested in the sports and/or entertainment industry? Consider attending the Sports Career and Internship Fair from 3 to 5 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Moda Center.

Meet recruiters from the sports and entertainment industry who are seeking summer interns and full-time hires from these Northwest teams and organizations: Trail Blazers, Winterhawks, Thunder, Timbers and Thorns, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Storm, Tacoma Rainers, Hillsboro Hops, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, Alpha Broadcasting, Rip City Management, Levy Restaurants, the International Basketball League and reps from the NBA and WNBA.

Register at the IDEA Center for $10 to attend the fair. Tickets at this price do not include a ticket to the Trail Blazers/San Antonio Spurs game tonight.

REAL Women of Tech event is Thursday

Do you know students who struggle with tests? They read the book, do the assignments, study the night before, and still don’t do well on your tests?

Tomorrow (Thursday) Rick Muthiah, associate director of Learning Support Services, will cover several strategies for improving performance on tests. The title of the session is “How to Get A’s on All Your Tests (or at least become a better test-taker).”
