Join us for Fox French Film Festival on Friday

If your photo was selected as a finalist, we need you to submit a printed 8×10 copy of your photo(s) to the International Center/Cultural House by Thursday, April 3, at 5 p.m. Please print your photo(s) with a white border on the outside and include a brief description with each one. This could include ideas such as place, season, your interest in the photo or whatever you think describes it best.

We will mount and display the photos on Tuesday, April 8, in the first-floor lobby of the Stevens Centers for the entire George Fox community to vote for their favorites.

Student worship leaders needed for Greenroom

Do you have a passion for worship? Would you like to lead a worship session for a small, casual gathering of Fox students?

Greenroom, our student-led worship service, is looking for people who want to lead an hour of music and/or other worship activities (Scripture, contemplation, group prayer, etc.) for April.

We need leaders for the dates of April 13, April 20 and April 27. Greenroom happens Sunday nights at 9 p.m. in the Prayer Chapel, depending on availability of worship leaders. If you or a group would like to lead on any of these dates, please contact Grayce Beebe at gbeebe10@georgefox.edu.

Ushers needed for ‘The Game’s Afoot’

Looking for a way to be involved in the spring theatrical production, The Game’s Afoot? Consider being an usher! It’s a great way to support the production, and you might be able to see it for free (if you usher twice, it’s a guarantee)!

Here are the performance dates. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of the Sunday, April 13, matinee at 2 p.m.

We are in need of ushers for every night, but especially for the Saturday, April 5, performance. Dress code for ushers is black and white, and you will need to show up an hour and a half before the show starts.

New car registrations after spring break

Students: If you were registered as not having a car all semester, but have brought a car back with you after break, it will only be $20 to register it until the end of the semester.

Please come to the security office so we can get your registration changed, your vehicle registered, and a parking permit issued. Please call 503-554-2090 if you have any questions. The office will be open around 6:45 a.m., so come on in!

Auditions for a.m. chapel ensemble set for this week

Announcing Kerygma, a worship ensemble under the direction of the university’s performing arts department. All George Fox students are welcome to audition. Kerygma will be responsible for leading the a.m. chapel services for the 2014-15 academic year.

Applications for leaders, leader apprentices and team members are located on the second floor of the Ross building outside the music department office. Please fill out an application and sign up for an audition slot posted on the department office door. Auditions are being held March 31-April 2.

This is an auditioned performing arts group under the class heading MUSI 285, which can be taken for 1 or 0 credits. If you have questions, email Robert Gaither at rgaither@georgefox.edu.

Summer addresses collection starts tomorrow, April 1

Attention freshmen, sophomores and juniors: The collecting of summer addresses starts tomorrow (Tuesday, April 1) from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the ASC offices. It will be the table with candy!

You have three options for your mail over the summer:

  1. Request to keep your mailbox open part or all of the summer
  2. Give us an address where we can forward your mail during the summer. (We will close your mailbox and reopen the same mailbox for you two weeks before school starts in the fall.)
  3. Any combination of the above.

Campuses close for spring break holiday this Friday

All Newberg, Portland, Salem and Redmond offices will be closed this Friday, March 28, for the spring break holiday. The Newberg and Portland libraries and bookstores will be closed as well.

Football season tickets available to employees beginning today

Today is a big day for George Fox University as we proudly launch season-ticket availability for our inaugural season of Bruin football to a select group of individuals. For the next seven days, all university employees and alumni will have early access to season tickets before they are released to the general public on March 31.

Some details you should know:

  • Season tickets in the covered grandstand are $90 until May 5, when the price increases to $100.
  • The Bruins will host five home games this first season.
  • Single game tickets in the covered grandstand and general admission tickets will be released later this spring; we are not selling season tickets in the general admission section.
  • All university staff and students will receive one complimentary ticket per home game to sit in the uncovered general-admission bleachers.

Plant Services offers furniture sale, free office supplies today

Plant Services is hosting a sale of furniture and other miscellaneous items – and will have some office supplies for free – today (Monday) from 9 a.m. until noon. All “for sale” items are for personal use and need to be picked up the day of the sale. The office supplies are all free and should be used on campus only and not taken home for personal use.

The sale will be in the Plant Services building at 1101 N. Villa Road.

Here is a list of items and general pricing:

  • Desks – We have 12 large and several smaller desks of different types from metal to wood ranging from $5 to $25 each.
  • Office chairs – There about 30 chairs ranging from $5 to $10 each.
  • Wingback chairs – There are four fairly nice chairs at $10 each.
  • IMac shape desks – These have the odd shape with casters on them.
  • Tables – Several different types, styles and sizes from $5 to $10 each.
  • Conferences-style chairs – There are 16 matching padded chairs, some without casters.
  • Large blue pots – Two old pots from EHS Atrium at $50 each.
  • Black file cabinet – One four-drawer standard cabinet at $5.
  • Office supplies – Free supplies for campus use including file folders, hanging files, desktop accessories, plastic desktop file holders and three-ring notebooks. Too many items to list them all.

Mail Services and Print Services open during spring break

Mail Services and Print Services will be open over spring break during normal hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Monday through Thursday. Both offices will be closed on Friday, March 28, for the university’s spring break holiday.

Mail Services will hold all incoming mail and packages until you return from spring break.

Brian Gardner leaving George Fox to serve as VP for advancement at Indiana Wesleyan

The university wishes to extend well wishes to Brian Gardner, who has accepted the position of vice president for university advancement at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind. His last day with George Fox is today (Friday).

Indiana Wesleyan is a fellow member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). Reporting to the CEO of residential education, Brian will oversee the university advancement division, work closely with President David Wright (a George Fox alumnus), and serve on the President’s Executive Council.

Brian has been a valued member of the George Fox advancement team the past two years. Please be sure to wish this George Fox alumnus success in his new role and school.

Polly Peterson leads International Chapel this morning

All are invited to join us for International Chapel today (Friday) from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. in the International Center/Cultural House.

This week, Polly Peterson will lead us through a Lectio Divina experience. Lectio Divina is a traditional practice of Scripture reading, meditation and prayer. Polly teaches writing classes and has worked in the English Language Institute here at George Fox.

International chapel is designed to help us better understand what it means to be a Christian. It is eligible for chapel elective credit.
