Events scheduled to commemorate Women’s History Month

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

March is Women’s History Month, a time to remember the obstacles women have overcome and to confront the barriers women still face. The Office of Inclusion and Student Leadership Programs welcome men and women to come engage in events during this month so that, together, we can move toward gender equality and justice.

Thursday, March 7 – Women’s Month Table Talk, Bruin Grounds, noon. All are welcome to discuss the prevalence of sexism today.

Friday, March 8 – Women’s International Day. On this day in Eastern Europe, men hand out chocolates to women and give kind words. Come by the Bruin Den to write cards and give chocolate to women you appreciate.

Friday, March 19 – Women, Religion, and Work Panel, Lemmons 8, 7 p.m. Did God “design” a certain role for women, or is it arbitrary? How do women experience sexism and discrimination? Are religion and feminism compatible? All are invited to come hear from Melanie Mock, Shelley Yonemura, DeLisa Thomas and Suhila Jefery.

Questions? Contact Drew Miller at dmiller09@georgefox.edu.

Urban Outreach seeks help in creating care packages

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

At the end of next week Urban Outreach will be putting together care packages for our friends living on the streets of Portland and Salem. To those of you who helped in the coin drive, thank you! That will help a lot toward the cost. I don’t know that we can afford to put everything into them that I had hoped, though. So here’s the plan: I’ll let you all in on the creation of these packages.

Following is a list of items I hope to put in each package.

Travel size of the following: shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, comb, floss, one large black trash bag (believe me, it comes in handy), one or two travel-size packs of wet wipes and a pair of socks

One mini care kit containing: Q-tips, Band-Aids, cotton balls, sterilizing swabs and medical tape

Please e-mail me if you would like to contribute any quantity of the items on this list, or if you have ideas about something else to include. I have thought of including small pocket New Testaments, or at least having them available.

Let’s see what God does!

God bless,
Mary Owen (mowen10@georgefox.edu)

Undecided about your major?

Following that, we welcome you to the Career Center, on the first floor of Stevens, for a career conversation to help you sort out and clarify your direction – especially before it is time to set up next year’s academic schedule.

Many have gone before you and found this to be just what was needed. Contact us if you have questions at ext. 2330 or careers@georgefox.edu.
