Second annual Diversity Forum scheduled Feb. 15

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

What have you wanted to ask someone of another race or a different culture but are too afraid? What is a label that has been unfairly given to you? What is your first thought when the word “race” is said?

Be mindful of guests during lunch in Klages Friday and Saturday

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

This Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11, we are expecting more than 500 additional high school students and parents to join us for both days due to the scholarship competitions taking place. They will be eating lunch in Klages between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday and between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday. We’d like to ask as many of our regular students as possible not to come for lunch until after 1 p.m. on Friday in order to avoid most of the crowds.

On Saturday, if at all possible, please arrive before 11 a.m. or after 1 p.m. In order to accommodate all of these visitors as well as our regular students, we will be serving both these meals on disposable paper plates and would like to encourage all GFU students to take their meals out of the dining room those days so that we have enough room for our visitors. The Cap and Gown Room will be available for overflow seating.

Thanks for your help and let’s all work to make this a good experience for our visitors and prospective students!

Housing Selection Information

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

With housing selection coming up in just over a month, there are a few details students should be aware of for the 2012-2013 selection process.

1) Students 21 years old or older and students with senior status (93+ credits) as of the first day of classes (Aug. 27, 2012) will be eligible to live off campus.

2) A $150 non-refundable housing deposit needs to be paid to be eligible to sign up for housing.

Details about the housing deposit:

  • You will need to have a current account (as determined by SFS) in order to pay your housing deposit.
  • You will be able to pay your deposit now through March 16 in Student Financial Services (SFS), located on the first floor of the Stevens Center.
  • The deposit may be refunded if you withdraw it prior to housing selection or do not go through housing selection. If you withdraw your deposit prior to selection, then you will not go through selection.
  • Once you have received a housing assignment your deposit will be applied toward your fall charges.
  • The housing deposit will be forfeited if you cancel your housing after receiving an assignment.
  • If you will be living with an RA or chosen by an RA to live in a house you will need to submit your housing deposit in order to keep your housing assignment.

Note: Students who are eligible to live off-campus and do not submit a housing deposit will automatically be designated as off-campus for the fall.

3) In order to be considered for Le Shana Hall, your group will need to have six people. Groups of five will not be considered for Le Shana. Groups of six that are not able to make it into Le Shana will be placed in either two adjacent Weesner Village apartments or three adjacent Coffin Hall rooms.

4) Coffin Hall: Depending on the number of returning and incoming students in housing, one floor of Coffin will be available for returning female students and possibly one floor for returning male students.

For information about housing selection, please refer to the Housing and Residence Life website or e-mail housing@georgefox.edu with questions.
