About Our People

The university honored four faculty members as its 2013-14 Professors of the Year. Awards went to the following:

  • Faculty Achievement Award for Undergraduate Teaching: Nick Willis, associate professor of mathematics
  • Faculty Achievement Award for Graduate Teaching: Katy Turpen, assistant professor of education (MAT program)
  • Faculty Achievement Award for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship: Brian Doak, assistant professor of biblical studies
  • Faculty Achievement Award for Graduate Research and Scholarship: Rodger Bufford, professor of psychology

Martha Iancu (Faculty Emerita) was recently presented with the Mary Finocchiaro Award for Excellence in Nonpublished Pedagogical Material at the 2014 TESOL Annual Convention & English Language Expo in Portland, Ore. The award was given for teaching materials she wrote to accompany the book In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson by Bette Bao Lord. The award recognized Martha as a leader in the TESOL field who has helped advance opportunities for English learners and their educators. To support whole-language techniques in reading classes, Martha has created teaching materials for 30 fiction and nonfiction books.
