You might have only filled out a bracket, but we know you are still a competitor deep down – right? Be part of a real bracket by signing up for the Millage Madness cornhole tournament. You don’t need any talent – that isn’t what cornhole is about – just a teammate and a dream.

Volunteer to usher at spring commencement on May 3

March 23rd, 2025

Join the excitement of spring commencement as a volunteer! We are looking for several volunteers to serve as ushers at the undergraduate commencement on Saturday, May 3. There will be two separate ceremonies again this year. Here is the schedule:

  • 11 a.m. – Division of Humanities, Honors and Education, Division of Health and Behavioral Sciences, George Fox Digital
  • 3 p.m. – Division of Engineering, Science, Art and Business

This format allows a more personalized and celebratory atmosphere for our graduates and their families, and like last year, we are calling for “all-community” participation. What a thrill it is to see graduates, their families and their friends come together to celebrate!

Volunteers are vital to the smooth execution of the day’s events and to help make the day memorable for our graduates and their guests. This event couldn’t happen without you!

Please sign up for a time to serve in one of the two ceremonies. All who volunteer to participate as ushers will receive a $50 gift card for each ceremony they assist with! If you sign up for both ceremonies, lunch will be provided too!

Thank you in advance for your willingness to serve! Questions? Contact Laurie Fair at lfair@georgefox.edu.

Use Gemini for Google Workspace at George Fox

March 23rd, 2025

As announced at the March all-employee meeting, Google’s Gemini AI services are now available to all George Fox employees through your university @georgefox.edu account! Not only is Gemini an AI chat resource, similar to ChatGPT or Claude, but Gemini can also collaborate directly in Google Workspace applications.

To access Gemini, look for the “Gemini Star”or visit this link. For quick help on getting started, including using features such as image generation, check out Google’s Guide for Using Gemini.

Using Google Gemini through your university account means:

  • Interactions with Gemini stay within the George Fox Google Workspace
  • Content provided to Gemini is not used for AI model training
  • The same enterprise-grade security protections from the rest of George Fox’s Google Workspace apply to Gemini.

We are looking forward to hearing of the creative ways you use Gemini! Please share your stories with us at servicedesk@georgefox.edu.

March 23rd, 2025

The city of Newberg will be doing some work on Fulton Street, beginning today (Monday) and continuing until Friday, April 18. The city will be upgrading the sewer, water and storm underground utilities, as well as paving Fulton Street.

Important info regarding in-person BruinBuy training April 7-9

March 23rd, 2025

Hello all! As announced at last week’s all-employee meeting, the Unimarket team will be on-site from April 7-9 to provide in-person training on BruinBuy, our new eProcurement system.

We will be offering three sessions for Browsers and Buyers, and two sessions specifically for Approvers. To ensure everyone is on the same page, here’s a quick reminder about the Unimarket roles:

  • Browser: Shops the Marketplace, creates incomplete requisitions with or without accounting strings, reassigns requisitions to a Buyer, and requests new suppliers
  • Buyer: Shops the Marketplace, creates requisitions (including those reassigned by a Browser), and requests new suppliers. Once a Buyer submits a requisition for approval, the funds are encumbered.
  • Approver: Reviews and approves or declines requisitions submitted by Buyers, ensuring that purchases are reasonable, authorized, and comply with the approval process.

Please use the following links to sign up for the appropriate session based on your role:

Please remember to bring your laptops to the session. Please direct your questions to Frank Charles at fcharles@georgefox.edu.

Nourishing News: Feast on these quick and healthy food options

March 20th, 2025

Life moves fast, especially when you’re managing commitments at work and responsibilities around the home. It’s easy to fall into a pattern of grabbing pre-packaged snacks in between meetings or tasks.

But with a little planning, you can break the cycle. Healthy snacks abound, and some of them can help you manage stress.

  • Emphasizing whole foods and thinking beyond typical snack foods are just two ways to avoid consuming high-sugar and high-salt snacks. Check out these five tips to plan nourishing snacks that can stabilize blood sugar and stave off hunger.
  • Believe it or not, a lot of “comfort foods” can actually contribute to increased stress, psychologically and emotionally. These no-hassle foods that fight stress can counter the effects of cortisol (a stress-inducing hormone), improve your sleep patterns and help your digestive system.

Have nutrition-related questions? The Wellness Committee invites you to explore a wealth of resources at Providence Basecamp, including Ask the RD, which allows you to get answers to questions from a registered dietician.
