Have you been experiencing aches or pains in your body? Injured recently? Planning on having surgery? Noticing difficulty with everyday movements? The George Fox Physical Therapy Community Clinic is here for you!

We treat pain, injuries and movement difficulties of all types, so please reach out if you are needing guidance. We work with you, your schedule and your finances to give you the care you need.

Each session costs $25 for George Fox students and staff. The cost is $35 for community members.

Professional Development Committee opens nomination process

It is a new year, and that brings an opportunity to welcome new representatives to join the Professional Development Committee (PDC)!

We are looking to add up to six positions to the PDC for people who are passionate about serving their fellow George Fox employees to promote personal and professional growth and encourage communication, fellowship and unity within the George Fox community.

We would like to invite all staff and administrators to nominate co-workers (or themselves) to serve on the Professional Development Committee by filling out this 2024 PDC Nomination form. Please submit nominations by Friday, Feb. 2.

Join us tomorrow for the Wellness Challenge kickoff event in Hadlock Student Center

The Step Into 2024 Wellness Challenge kickoff event is right around the corner!

Join the Wellness Committee on Friday, Jan. 12, anytime from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hadlock Student Center to learn about alternative ways to get in your steps.

You will get a guided tour of the building and learn about the various classes and activities that are offered, including pickleball, walking the track and rock climbing. You could even join a 15-minute sample spin class at 1 p.m.

Light snacks will be served, and you can earn raffle tickets for prizes during the event.

All are invited to attend the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day event on Monday, Jan. 15, at the Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg.

The program begins at 6 p.m. and will feature several George Fox students and employees. The event will include an interactive art installation facilitated by Marvin Eans, chair of the art and design department.

We are on the lookout for enthusiastic undergraduate students to become the face of George Fox University in our upcoming campus tour video series. Our goal is to provide prospective students, families and the world a digital window into our wonderful university, and we want you to be a part of it!

We will work with you over the course of a few shoots and give you some coaching to make sure you are ready.

Richter Scholars program proposals due Jan. 22

Are you interested in doing research? The Richter Scholars program at George Fox distributes funds to support student research activities that are devised, initiated and carried out by individual student researchers, with mentorship, guidance and expertise provided by a faculty mentor.

Students, if you are interested in doing research next summer, connect with a faculty mentor now so they can help you with your proposal. Before preparing a proposal, please read through the full proposal guidelines, eligibility requirements, and review criteria at this link.

All submittals will be electronic and are due Monday, Jan. 22, 2024 by 5 p.m. The Smartsheet link can be found on the website.

Be aware of inclement weather conditions on campus

Winter weather has officially arrived! As temperatures drop, there is a potential for icy and snowy conditions.

Please be aware of areas around campus that may be icy, such as Crisman Crossing, Wheeler Bridge, stairs, and entryways into buildings. Parking lots may have black ice conditions. Please wear footwear with appropriate tread.

English department seeks student teachers for Language Enrichment program

Do you love writing? Are you passionate about literature? Do you want an exciting way to reach into the community and get paid to do it? Then do we have a job for you!

The English department is looking for George Fox students who are willing to teach in our Language Enrichment program for middle and high school students in our community. With a low time commitment and positive learning experience, the Language Enrichment program is a great opportunity to test out or jump-start your teaching skills.

The classes will be taught in the afternoons from Jan. 12 to March 22.

Local School Night Out on Jan. 13

This Saturday, Jan. 13, is Local School Night Out at Miller Gymnasium, and we are offering free admission for all children in kindergarten through eighth grade!

Enjoy games, giveaways, face painting and an opportunity to meet Pennington Bear – all while the Bruins take on the Whitman Blues at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Students, faculty and staff are free with a George Fox ID.
