To all eligible juniors and sophomores, if you haven’t already, please sign up for your Juniors Abroad trip before this Sunday, April 11, at 11:59 p.m.
These positions are now open on Handshake and will be open through this Friday, April 9. If you have any questions, please contact us at spirituallife@georgefox.edu or call 503-554-2320.
Spouses and dependents of employees are now permitted to use the Hadlock Student Center, effective this month. If a spouse or adult dependent has a George Fox ID card, they need to login to MyGeorgeFox on their personal account and sign this year’s waiver.
If a spouse or adult dependent needs an ID card, the sponsoring university employee must email the IT Service Desk (servicedesk@georgefox.edu) to request one. Once the waiver is completed and the spouse or adult dependent has a valid ID, they will be able to use the Hadlock Student Center.
Spouses and adult dependents are able to participate in most programs and services that Hadlock offers, such as exercise classes and the climbing wall, with the exception of outdoor recreation trips and activities at this time.
For details on dependents 12 to 17 years of age, please see below, as our normal policy still applies. Dependents under the age of 12 are not permitted access at this time (with the exception of Family Days).
Here is our policy for family and dependents of employees:
Full-time university employees can request a George Fox ID card for a spouse or dependent (aged 18 to 26) by emailing the IT Service Desk (servicedesk@georgefox.edu)
Spouses and dependents are not allowed to use the employee’s ID card for entrance
A dependent is defined as a member of the household who is claimed as a dependent on the employee’s tax return
Dependents aged 12 to 17 can use the HSC while directly supervised by a parent/guardian although they are not required to obtain a George Fox ID card
Dependents under the age of 18 need to have a completed guest waiver on file prior to utilizing the facility
We are entering the final quarter of the fiscal year with an encouraging forecast for our final operating results, in spite of reduced revenue due to COVID-19. This is primarily because of a significant reduction in operating expenses.
Please continue to spend prudently on mission-driven priorities only. Ending the year in a strong fiscal position will help all of us with maintaining Fox’s standard of excellence going forward.
Today (Tuesday) through Thursday, April 8, all Champion brand merchandise is 20% off at the Bruin Store and online. We also have two full racks of tees under $10, and all Closet Project items are $1.
We take donations for the Closet Project year-round, and are in need of clean dress clothes, denim, women’s tops, men’s jackets, and blazers. Please bring donations by the Bruin Store during business hours. The Closet Project was started by the Bruin Store team as an initiative to bring affordable professional attire to our students.
As students have gotten more involved, and become excited about donating, our inventory has expanded into athletic gear, wardrobe basics (T-shirts, tank tops, denim, etc.), and jackets. Each item is sold for $1. All sales from the Closet Project are donated back to the Bruin Community Pantry, so this is a great way to both give back and put our students first.
Faculty, staff and families are welcome to shop the Closet Project as well. We would love to have you benefit from this project and support the Bruin Community Pantry at the same time.
Welcome to spring! April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the George Fox Sexual Misconduct CARE Team is hoping to bring more attention and education toward this on campus.
We will be holding a virtual event featuring survivor, educator and wellness coach Brittany Piper. Brittany uses her story of adversity, resilience and triumph to empower and inspire audiences to take brave action in their own lives and communities.
Brittany will be sharing on:
Rape Culture: A Survivor’s Perspective
From Hardship to Leadership: Transforming Pain into Progress
After the Assault: Healing Through Self-Care for Survivors and Their Peers
This event will be held this Friday, April 9, at 6 p.m. over Zoom. The Zoom link will be provided directly to you through email. Please fill out this Google Form if you are interested in attending.
We look forward to learning alongside you! Questions or concerns? Please contact Amanda Nguyen (anguyen18@georgefox.edu).

Over the course of the next two weeks, the Critical Hit Club will be having a creativity contest. It is open to all students and faculty, with dungeon masters judging the competition.
There are two ways you can win:
Campaign Setting: From grand maps to simple plot lines, we want to see what creative ideas you have in store for a game world in Dungeons and Dragons.
Characters: We want to see your cool ideas for characters, from the most dashing swashbuckling Tiefling to the quiet, bookish Elven Scholar.
Send your character sheet, character concept, drawings, and other aspects that highlight your ideas for a chance to win! Entries will be accepted through Friday, April 16.
The winners will receive their choice of a Gun Metal die set from Easy Roller Dice.
Married undergraduate and graduate students that meet the eligibility requirements for the Hadlock Student Center can purchase a membership for their spouse at the beginning of each academic term (fall, spring and summer) for $75.
A marriage license or other official document must be provided at the time of purchase. This policy does not apply to engaged students. Memberships are not usually prorated if purchased later in the academic term. For the month of April, memberships are prorated to $20 for the month.
Starting Saturday, May 1, the summer membership would apply. A spouse membership allows for participation in most programs and services, including intramural sports, group fitness classes, outdoor equipment rental center, climbing wall programs and services, fitness facilities, outdoor recreation trips and activities, and other workshops.
In order to set up a time to purchase a membership, please email AJ Heil (aheil@georgefox.edu).
Join librarian Robin Ashford as she discusses how to find, access, and best utilize the variety of ebook platforms used here at George Fox. The workshop will be held this Thursday, April 8, at 10 a.m. via Zoom. Register for this workshop and others here.
This semester, the library is offering a series of workshops to help the Fox community navigate our increasingly digital library environment. Each workshop will be taught by a different librarian, making them an excellent way to refresh your skills, learn something new, or hear an old concept in a new way.
Please note: Campus Public Safety normally doesn’t allow vehicles to remain on campus during the summer if the owner isn’t currently taking classes.
Exceptions to this policy are as follows:
Student is on Juniors Abroad or winter/summer serve trip
Student lives too far away to easily drive home
International students who purchase vehicles here and return home for breaks
Students on official George Fox activities (sports activities/academic trips, etc.)
If a student falls within those categories, they may fill out the Vehicles Left on Campus Policy Form, agreeing to the requirements. This form must be completed before you leave campus, and you must leave a key with Campus Public Safety before leaving your vehicle on campus.
Any vehicle left on campus without the key being left with security is subject to tow at your expense due to plant services/construction activity all around campus during the summer.
For all other students, it is recommended to leave your car off campus with a friend who can drive it and watch it, as George Fox is not responsible for any theft or damage to your vehicle while left unattended on campus.
Do not abandon your car on city streets, as the city of Newberg will tow it as an “abandoned vehicle†after 72 hours.
Questions? Call Campus Public Safety at 503-554-2090 or email Elrike Shaw (eshaw@georgefox.edu).
Today and tomorrow, April 6-7, are the dates for the university’s evaluation visit from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Welcome to week one of our month-long fundraising campaign, “George Fox Gives!” This week, we are inviting our community to prayerfully consider supporting our students through one or more of our student success initiatives.
Please view the list of highlighted funds below and how each directly supports student success here at George Fox:
Student Emergency Fund
Provide financial assistance to students who are experiencing emergency situations and lack financial resources for essential needs like food, housing, and medical costs
Supporting Teachers Fund

Bruin Community Pantry

Bridge Network
Support a mentorship program that connects George Fox student-athletes to both upper-class athletes and business leaders for mutual enrichment and discipleship
We ask that you prayerfully consider joining our community of employee donors by making a donation to one of the above funds that speak to your heart.
The university’s theatre department invites the George Fox community to its spring drama, Parables: A Theatrical Installation, to be presented live on campus April 8-11 and April 15-18, and both live and virtually April 15-18.
Live performances are free (donations accepted) and are scheduled at 7:30 and 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 8-10 and April 15-17, and on both Sundays at 7:30 p.m. only. We will meet at the amphitheater on campus to begin the live shows.
Please be aware that live shows are available only to on-campus students and employees. If you are interested in picking up a ticket for a live show, contact Kathy Harris (kharris@georgefox.edu) in the theatre department.
The virtual performances will be presented at 7:30 p.m. each night between April 15 and 18. You may pick up your free tickets at this link.
Synopsis: Parables is a traveling theatrical installation that promises to be a unique experience for performers and audience members alike. Director Cristi Miles and an ensemble of theatre students will devise a theatrical experience based on well-known (and not so well-known) parables, fables, allegories and the international bestselling book, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coehlo, for site-specific performances around our beautiful campus.
Working for Student Activities is perfect for anyone needing a low-commitment, high-energy job where you can gain and refine skills for the workplace while having a blast.
Anyone is welcome to apply! Learn more about the open positions and fill out the quick application, which is due tonight (Sunday) at 5 p.m., here.
