The George Fox community and the general public are invited to attend the Woolman Peacemaking Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 10, hosted by the Center for Peace and Justice.
This engaging evening will feature dynamic speakers, with time built into each session for Q&A and meaningful dialogue. In these turbulent times, we hope you will join us for this timely and thoughtful conversation. You can attend in person in Hoover 105 or online via livestream.
Event Schedule:
- 3 to 8 p.m. – Nonprofit Expo and George Fox Art & Design Student Gallery
- 3:30 to 5 p.m. – Peacemakers Panel: “Beyond Violence: Where Hope Begins in a Broken World.”
You can review the lineup of panelists and get the livestream link on the George Fox Woolman Forum webpage. Our guests have led global organizations, started nonprofits, and sat with the broken. They have served the vulnerable both locally and abroad, including in Syria, Israel-Palestine, Congo, Haiti, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, and beyond.
- 6 to 8 p.m. – Keynote Address: “How Can We Respond to Injustice in a Divided World?”
Stephan and Belinda Bauman will explore the relationship biblical justice has with presence and peace through the lens of theology and neuroscience, using Isaiah 58 as a framework to explore what this means to us today.
Note: Chapel credit is available for students. Questions? Contact Hayley Fortner at hfortner@georgefox.edu.

In a world where staying connected often feels like being permanently plugged in, it’s easy to overlook the toll that constant screen time takes on our well-being.
While our devices are incredible tools for productivity, many of us spend more than double the recommended daily limit on our phones alone, leading to hidden stress and mental fatigue. This Wellness Wednesday, we invite you to explore the practice of a digital detox.
It’s not about abandoning technology altogether; it’s about making a conscious choice to step away and give your mind the space it needs to reset. By setting intentional boundaries, like silencing non-essential notifications or designating the dinner table as a tech-free zone, you allow yourself to trade mindless scrolling for mindful living.
The benefits of unplugging go far beyond just a break. When we silence the digital noise, we naturally lower our anxiety, sharpen our focus and significantly improve our sleep quality. Use those reclaimed minutes to rediscover a hobby, enjoy a walk outdoors, or engage in an uninterrupted conversation with a friend.
Remember, your internal battery needs recharging just as much as your phone does. By taking even a few hours to disconnect from the virtual world, you create the opportunity to reconnect more deeply with your passions and the people right in front of you.
How to Begin
- Set clear boundaries. Decide on the duration of your detox and stick to it. Let family, friends and coworkers know when you’ll be unreachable.
- Silence notifications. Switch off unnecessary notifications during your detox phase.
- Create tech-free zones. Designate certain areas where the use of gadgets is prohibited, such as the dinner table or in bed.
- Schedule offline activities. Use your detox time for joyful things like taking a walk, making something new, visiting with friends, or practicing mindful meditation.
