No prior experience is necessary; just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! We will provide all the materials needed, including yarn and crochet hooks. In addition to practicing your skills, you’ll also have the opportunity to connect with fellow crochet enthusiasts in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Receive a free beanie and try out rock climbing at Vertical Virtuosos

Interested in rock climbing? Want to meet cool people and score a George Fox beanie? Join us (faculty and staff) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from around 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hadlock climbing wall!

All levels and experiences are welcome. It’s a fantastic opportunity to enjoy this exhilarating sport in a safe environment while mingling with folks from different departments and offices on campus. Join mariachi band info and jam session on Friday

The George Fox music program proudly presents the student-led mariachi band! We will have an info and jam session on Friday, April 12, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Ross 201.

The mariachi band is open to everyone and requires no previous experience. You will not need to bring an instrument, but please bring one if you have it. If interested, please fill out this Google Form. Make sure to invite your friends!

Consider donating leftover food and kitchen items to the Bruin Community Pantry

While packing up your living area, if you come across food items you don’t want to take home, please consider donating them to the Bruin Community Pantry.

We also accept cooking utensils, plates, pans, silverware, and more.

Drop off your donations during our hours of operation, which can be found on our website:

  • Mondays: Noon to 2 p.m.
  • Tuesdays: Noon to 5:30 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 2 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Fridays: 11 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 6 p.m.

Nursing students are collecting baby items and maternity clothing to donate

Nursing students are collecting baby clothes for Hope Clinic in Salem, a recent clinical location of theirs. Hope Clinic needs diapers sizes 5 to 6 and infant/children’s clothes up to size 5T. They would also be grateful for any other baby items and maternity clothing!

Beginning today (Wednesday), items can be donated in Roberts outside of Office 139. Donations will be accepted until Wednesday, April 24.

Event Services offers on-campus job opportunities this summer

Want to work on campus this summer? Event Services can make your dreams come true!

Event Services will be offering three student employment opportunities. There will be 10 total positions, with options for both full-time all summer and full-time short term from Monday, June 17, to FridayJuly 5.

Here are the three employment opportunities for this summer:

  • Conference specialist, five positions: This is a team of students who provide the front line of event and conference preparedness. You’ll be setting up and checking meeting spaces, checking guests into housing, cashiering at meals, and helping at a variety of activities, including athletic and music events, banquets, and worship gatherings.
  • Scheduling assistant, one position: This student employee will assist with detailed work of conference registrations, housing key inventory, distribution and collection, preparing arrival packets, backing up the conference specialists when extra hands are needed, and a variety of other office tasks
  • PCI mentors, four positions: This job is a short-term position from MondayJune 17, to MondayJuly 5, with the opportunity to transition into a conference specialist position when the mentor position ends. PCI mentors will be leading evening activities and staying overnight in the dorm with high school students attending the Pre-College Summer Institute. RA experienced preferred but not necessary.

DPT hosts a silent auction fundraiser for Uganda service trip this Saturday

Join us for an unforgettable night filled with excitement and generosity! We’re hosting a charity auction to help the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students at George Fox travel to Uganda for their annual medical service trip!

The night will be filled with mouth-watering dinner and dessert, as well as both a silent and live auction where you can bid on a diverse selection of items, including gift contributions from local small businesses, companies, travel experiences, and more!

The auction will take place in Canyon Commons 101 this Saturday, April 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. All proceeds from the auction will support the DPT program’s medical service trip to Uganda, where the team will offer medical care to patients in rural communities. Decorate tote bags at ‘Wineskin’ release party on April 19

Come to Minthorn 200 on Friday, April 19, at 6 p.m. for a night of tote-bag decorating, poetry reading and celebration! We will be handing out copies of this semester’s edition of The Wineskin, the campus literary and art magazine, full of published student work. See the poetry, prose and art of your fellow students and decorate a bag to celebrate the occasion!

Bring $4 (cash or Venmo) to support The Wineskin by buying a tote bag, or bring your own. Foxy George stickers will also be available for $1. Art supplies for decorating bags will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring extra!

Virtual Learning Center is hiring a writing consultant

The Virtual Learning Center (formerly Portland Writing Center) is seeking a new writing consultant who is enthusiastic about helping fellow graduate and degree-completion students understand the components of effective writing. The consultant will work during the summer term and possibly beyond. This is a remote position that operates on Pacific Standard Time.

Virtual Learning Center consultants are current adult degree-completion and graduate students who work 10 hours per week meeting with students via Zoom or asynchronously.

Writing consultant duties include helping students with the following:

  • Thinking through ideas for a writing assignment
  • Considering writing choices with regard to audience, focus, purpose, cohesion, and organization
  • Developing ideas with specific evidence
  • Improving research strategies
  • Applying proper documentation and formatting
  • Understanding basic grammar and mechanics
  • Academic coaching: time management and learning strategies
