We are in need of helping hands! Can you spare some time this upcoming season to assist with this year’s Christmas Extravaganza on Thursday, Nov. 30, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.?

As we near year-end, George Fox fans and supporters are sending in donations to their favorite programs on campus! If your department receives a donation directly from a donor, please bring it immediately to the advancement office for processing into your designated fund to ensure timely receipting to donors. We are located on the third floor of the Stevens Center.

This is the case for any time of year! Supporters who want to make an online donation can do so at giving.georgefox.edu, where they can enter their designation into the designation box.

Are you interested in doing research? The Richter Scholars program at George Fox distributes funds to support student research activities that are devised, initiated and carried out by individual student researchers, with mentorship, guidance and expertise provided by a faculty mentor.

Students, if you are interested in doing research next summer, connect with a faculty mentor now so they can help you with your proposal. Before preparing a proposal, please read through the full proposal guidelines, eligibility requirements, and review criteria at this link.

All submittals will be electronic and are due Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, by 5 p.m. The Smartsheet link can be found on the website.

The Richter Scholars program is accepting a second round of proposals which will be due Monday, Jan 22, 2024, by 5 p.m.

The Richter Scholars program distributes funds to support student research activities that are devised, initiated, and carried out by individual student researchers, with mentorship, guidance, and expertise provided by a faculty mentor.

The purpose of these funds is to support educational research opportunities that encourage the practices of independent thought leading to independent achievement and personal responsibility. For the purpose of this program, research is defined as a knowledge-generating activity that is designed to provide new information on a topic, tool, or process, and that proceeds according to established and accepted research methods.

Come hear an expert discuss Oregon’s history of housing discrimination on Nov. 27

Please join in hearing from Marlee Baker on the topic of discrimination, segregation and displacement that shaped early Oregon, and explore how this history continues to affect housing patterns today. Marlee is a George Fox social work graduate who has professional experience in housing discrimination history and fair housing law.

“Diversity Dialogue: History of Housing Discrimination in Oregon” will be presented in Hoover 103 on Monday, Nov. 27, at 6 p.m.

Christmas is just around the corner, and we in mail services want to make sure your packages get to your loved ones on time. Below are the shipping dates you need to send packages by in order to be assured they will arrive by Christmas.

  • Saturday, Dec. 16: USPS Ground Advantage Service
  • Monday, Dec. 18: Priority Mail Service
  • Wednesday, Dec. 20: Priority Mail Express Services (must be processed in downtown post office)

Donate to social work’s food drive and join in on a ‘Friendsgiving’ dinner tonight

Today (Monday) is the last day to bring food donations to support families at Edwards Elementary School as part of the Social Work Club’s Thanksgiving food drive. Please drop non-perishable items off at Roberts 215. Freshman and juniors are competing with sophomores and seniors; the team that brings in the most food will win a prize!

Also, be sure to join the Social Work Club for “Friendsgiving” dinner in Roberts 170 tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. Spend time together while assembling “grab bags” for our community with the food donations we’ve been collecting these past few weeks.

Food will be provided, and extra credit will be available for social work majors who come help out. We hope to see you there!

Learn about new summer abroad program in Lithuania at virtual info session

LCC International University in Lithuania is introducing a new summer program called Baltic Serve and Study, a five-week program that will include four weeks of classes on LCC’s campus and one week of travel to Estonia, Latvia and Finland.

This is a great opportunity for students who might find it more difficult to spend an entire semester away from campus.

LCC is hosting virtual information sessions for both students and partner associates to introduce this program. At these sessions you can hear about the travel itinerary, courses, program details, and application process. We would love to have you attend one of them on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 9 a.m. or Thursday, Nov. 30, at noon.

Spread Christmas cheer through the ‘Deck the Halls’ decoration competition

Sign up for a course on Wilderness First Aid at a discounted rate

University Recreation is hosting a Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course March 2-3, 2024. It is open to the public, and George Fox students and employees can participate at a discounted rate!

The course is a two-day introduction to general medical concepts and basic life support skills that will be helpful for anyone who spends a lot of time outside. You can register here.
