Learn from one of the country’s top retail executives and the former CEO of Starbucks

Monday, March 30th, 2026

Join us at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, to hear from Jim Donald, former CEO of Starbucks, as he shares his insights on leading through change.

Donald will move beyond business theory to discuss the human element in a conversation he calls, “What They Don’t Teach You in Business School: Real-World Leadership for the Future.” This free event in Canyon Commons offers a masterclass in the human element of industry.

Donald will provide the “missing link” between classroom theory and the grit of “front-line” leadership – lessons he learned directly from legendary figures like Sam Walton, founder of Walmart. He will deep dive into an “old-school” playbook that validates the daily professional challenges of the modern age through the lens of a servant-leadership model.

Donald is a world-class executive and “Turnaround King” with a storied 50-year career in the retail and service industries. Recognized by the Best Practice Institute as one of the “Top 25 CEOs in the World,” he has held the top leadership mantle at some of the most recognizable brands in the world, including Starbucks, Albertsons, and Extended Stay Hotels.

Reserve complimentary seats for Cornel West and Robert George’s talk on civic friendship April 16

Sunday, March 29th, 2026

What does it look like when two of America’s most brilliant and outspoken minds — one a conservative lion of natural law theory, the other a prophetic voice of the Black radical tradition — sit down not as opponents, but as brothers in Christ?

On Thursday, April 16, at 7 p.m., the university invites you to “Civic Friendship in a Polarized Age,” a rare and remarkable dialogue between Princeton’s Robert George and Union Seminary’s Cornel West.

Students have the option of receiving elective chapel credit for attending the event. Seating is limited inside Canyon Commons, so reserve your spot here.

Rooted not in the tired theater of political debate but in a shared Christian faith that calls all people to love their neighbors across every divide, this conversation will explore what genuine civic friendship demands of us in this fractured moment. Come expecting not a clash, but a covenant — a living demonstration that the gospel has always been, at its heart, a politics of reconciliation.

Hear from Professor Jeongah Kim at the Spring Faculty Lecture on March 3

Sunday, February 15th, 2026

Jason Brumitt and the Faculty Scholarship and Achievement Committee invite you to join them for the Spring Faculty Lecture on Tuesday, March 3, at 6 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Jeongah Kim, PhD, professor of social work and winner of the 2024-25 Faculty Achievement Award for Graduate Research and Scholarship, is the featured faculty speaker. Her lecture is titled, “Beyond the Binary: Bridging the Science-Faith Divide through Philosophy.”

In our modern professions, we are often forced into a false choice: the objective data of science or the personal conviction of faith. This “Two Truths” split creates a fragmentation that limits our ability to understand the world and help others. Professor Kim will share how she uses the often “hidden” third tool, philosophy, to bridge and heal this divide in her teaching and research.

Please join us as she illustrates how a balanced epistemology can unite two different ways of knowing: science and religion. By reclaiming philosophy as God-given wisdom, Professor Kim bridges a gap, bringing real healing, justice, and transformation.

The university and surrounding community are invited, and refreshments will be provided (including pizza supplied by Dr. Kim’s Templeton Religion Trust grant). We hope you can support Jeongah by attending.
