Don’t forget to join us this Monday, Sept. 22, for a presentation by Mark A. Noll, PhD, the Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame. He will present the lecture “The Challenges for Christian Learning: Looking Back, Looking Ahead” at 7:30 p.m. in Wood-Mar Auditorium on the Newberg campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Noll is the author of numerous books, including The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind and The Civil War as a Theological Crisis. During his years at Wheaton College, he was a co-founder of the Institute for the Study of American Evangelicals. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and, in 2006, received the National Endowment for the Humanities medal at a White House ceremony.

The lecture is sponsored by the William Penn Honors Program. A reception immediately following the lecture will be held for those interested in learning more about the honors program. Please contact Jane Sweet at jsweet@georgefox.edu if you have any questions.

Are you interested in a career as a clinical mental health counselor, couple and family systems counselor, school counselor or school psychologist? If so, then join an upcoming Graduate School of Counseling information meeting to learn about masters-level counseling programs offered at George Fox. Prerequisite classes are not required and your bachelor’s degree does not need to be in psychology to apply.

We are so thrilled at the turnout, the Bruin pride and the electricity that filled Stoffer Family Stadium last Saturday as the Bruin football team took the field for the first time in 46 years. What a day! It was one that we’ll all remember for a long time to come.

Michael Ward, PhD, professor of apologetics at Houston Baptist University and director of the C.S. Lewis Centre in Oxford, England, will visit the Newberg campus to present a lecture, “The Heavens are Telling the Glory of God: C.S. Lewis, Narnia and the Planets,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, in Bauman Auditorium. There is no charge to attend.

Ward is a leading expert on the works of C.S. Lewis and the author of Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C.S. Lewis. He is senior research fellow at Blackfriars Hall in the University of Oxford and co-editor of The Cambridge Companion to C.S. Lewis. He presented the BBC television documentary, The Narnia Code (2009). As an Anglican clergyman, he served as chaplain of St Peter’s College at the University of Oxford from 2009 to 2012 and as chaplain of Peterhouse at the University of Cambridge from 2004 to 2007.

Got warts? “Wart Wednesday” will be starting on Wednesday, Sept. 10, and continue every other week throughout the year. Treatment is offered free of charge to all Newberg campus students. Portland Center students and employees are welcome with the $20 co-pay.

An update on events in the news and the university’s transgender student housing policy is available at georgefox.edu/transgender.

On Thursday, June 5, our colleagues at Seattle Pacific University experienced a shooting on campus that resulted in one death and additional injuries.

In respect and observance of their loss, the flag shall be displayed at half staff June 6-13. The Seattle Pacific University community is in our thoughts and prayers.

Starting this week, you will need only your MyGFU username and password to log in to library resources from off campus.

Summit and Foxtrax will still ask for your last name and library barcode. When those systems are replaced at the end of the year, they too will begin using MyGFU credentials, and you will never have to type in your 14-digit barcode again.
