Loving-kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity. These four qualities are used as tools to cultivate a mind and heart of ease and wellbeing that benefits not only oneself but all of those around us.
Today, contemporary research studies are showing that practicing these qualities on a daily basis “increases one’s positive emotions and one’s degree of satisfaction with existence. The subjects feel more joy, kindness, gratitude, hope and enthusiasm, and the longer their training was, the more marked were the positive effects” (Journal of Personality and Social Psychology).
A seven-session series on the topic begins on Monday, Jan. 9, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and runs through April 3. The class meets online the second and fourth Monday of the month.
Click here to learn more and register, and contact Aga Luptak at aluptak@georgefox.edu with any questions.

The Portland Writing Center (PWC) is here to help students with writing, study skills, test-taking strategies, time management, and more. Here’s what you can do to help your students get off to a strong start this semester:
- Include the PWC syllabus statement provided on the Faculty Online Resources site.
- Talk about the PWC during your classes and before major papers are due.
- Recommend academic coaching as a way to get support with accountability, time management, study skills, and more.
- Consider requiring a visit to the PWC for one of your papers. If you are requiring a visit, please email Rick Muthiah (rmuthiah@georgefox.edu) to make sure the PWC schedule and consultants are prepared to meet your students’ needs.
The PWC will be offering an in-class visit with an PWC consultant for a five-minute Zoom presentation about the PWC to answer your students’ questions.
If you have any questions, or are interested in having a PWC consultant visit your class, contact Rick Muthiah at rmuthiah@georgefox.edu.
