Student supervisors: Pay day for student employees is Monday, Nov. 15. For us to meet this deadline, we need your students’ October time sheets by Wednesday, Nov. 3, by 5 p.m.
Please be sure the student’s name, ID number and cost center number is legible on each one. Also, don’t forget to sign them and be sure the students did as well. Please do not send students to HR to sign their time sheets.
Thanks so much for helping us get our students paid in a timely manner!

The Bruin Bookstore Textbook Annex is in the process of returning all overstock textbooks to publishers in anticipation of the Nov. 1 transition. All online textbook ordering has been disabled for all programs. The textbook annex will be closed during this process.

The university will host jazz saxophonist Allan Chase, who has performed with some of the nation’s top jazz musicians, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in Bauman Auditorium. The concert is being hosted in conjunction with Family Weekend.
All employees and students are entitled to one individual complimentary ticket, available for pick-up in the Bruin Bookstore. Additional tickets cost $10 (good for a family of four), and can be purchased by calling the University Box Office at ext. 3844, online at familyweekend.georgefox.edu, or in the lobby the night of the concert.
Chase will be the featured artist at the fall jazz concert, performing with the university’s Jazz Ensemble and a faculty trio. He is chair of the ear training department at Berklee College of Music in Boston and leads the Allan Chase Trio and the Allan Chase Quartet. Chase has been a soloist on 35 jazz recordings and performed with artists that include Rashied Ali, Joe Morris, Gunther Schuller and John McNeil.

Tickets are now available for the university’s fall theatre production, Euripides’ Ion. The show is a world premiere of Paul D. Streufert’s translation of the Greek tragedy.
Show dates are Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 4-6, and the following Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 11-14, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. each night with the exception of the Sunday, Nov. 14 show, scheduled as a 2 p.m. matinee.
All George Fox University employees receive one complimentary ticket. Students will be admitted free on both Thursdays. Your complimentary ticket is only available at the Box Office in the Bruin Bookstore. Additional tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for alumni and seniors, and $6 for students and children under 12. The all-employee meetings originally scheduled for Oct. 28 and Nov. 24 have been canceled. Instead, an all-employee meeting is scheduled from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, in Bauman Auditorium (note the location change).
For those at the university’s regional sites, the meeting will be available for viewing at stream.georgefox.edu/live/commmtg.sdp. If you have any problems connecting, contact the Service Desk at ext. 2569. In addition, a chat room has been set up to allow for interaction. A video recording of the meeting will be available for viewing in the days following the meeting at itunesu.georgefox.edu.

As a reminder, a tuition remission information session will be presented online at 1 p.m. (PST) Thursday, Oct. 21. The session is meant for anyone who is interested in receiving more information regarding tuition remission, tuition exchange and admissions.
The intended audience are those who are preparing (either for themselves or someone they know) for undergraduate admissions for the 2011 year. This is a repeat of the on-campus meeting that was held in September.

Zaher Wahab, professor of education at Lewis and Clark University, will speak about his experiences in Afghanistan at the next Liberal Arts and Critical Issues Forum, scheduled this Monday, Oct. 18, in Hoover 105. Wahab, a senior advisor to the Ministry of Education in Afghanistan, will speak from 4:40 to 5:40 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m.

Your e-mail should include the person’s name, job title, a concise but specific summary of this person’s contribution(s) to the university, its students, and/or its employees in the past 30 days or so, and any other information that you believe makes this person deserving of this award.
The President’s Executive Leadership Team will then select someone for this honor from the nominations submitted. The winner will be announced at the next all-community meeting (to be scheduled in November) and will receive a $100 gift card to The Allison.

The School of Business will host a VIP lecture featuring Richard G. Reiten, retired chief executive officer of Northwest Natural, at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, in EHS 102.
Reiten will present on the topic “Ethics and Values – Your Code for the Road.†There is no charge to attend.
Reiten served as CEO of Northwest Natural Gas from 1997 until 2002. He joined the company as president and chief operating officer and was elected to the board in 1996. He was appointed to the additional position of chairman of the board in September 2000, a position he held until 2005.
