The academic affairs office has an abundance of five-tab and eight-tab notebook dividers available on a first-come, first-served basis. We also have sheet protectors (clear, non-glare), used hanging folders (8.5″ X 11″) and used manila file folders available.

All-employee meeting scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in VAC

Don’t forget the all-employee meeting scheduled for this afternoon (Wednesday), beginning at 3:30 p.m. in VAC 117 (please note new location). At the meeting, the VP’s will share information regarding the recent restructuring.

For those at the university’s regional sites, the meeting will be available at a stream site that you can access from MyGFU. Simply log into MyGFU and click the “Community Meeting Link” located under “Staff Resources/Faculty Resources.” It is the bottom link in that section. The link will take you to all the information relating to community meetings and include a live-stream link (the password changes each meeting) and a chat room link.

Update on Portland Center room and equipment reservations procedure

I wanted to thank all of you for working with me during this interim time with room reservations. It has been fun to work with you throughout the past few weeks. However, we have hired a new site coordinator, and she will be handling room reservations from now on. Her name is Emily Maynard, and you can contact her by e-mail (emaynard@georgefox.edu) or phone (ext. 6164)

Emily will be handling any room reservations, but I will still be handling the technology request. Please remember to get all room reservations and technology requests in by 1 p.m. the prior business day that it is needed.

Faculty: Check to make sure textbooks are listed correctly on site

Faculty: Please go to our store website (gfubookstore.com) and check to make sure your textbooks are listed correctly for each of your courses. This is what students use to purchase books. Please help me catch any mistakes before it’s too late to fix them. Any missing courses means I don’t have an order from you and need those A.S.A.P.

Farewell book for Tamara Cissna is available to sign

If you didn’t get a chance to attend Tamara Cissna’s farewell reception last week, you still have the opportunity to wish her well. A “memory book” has been created for her. If you are interested in writing a note of farewell or encouragement in the book, it will be available to sign at the front desk in the marketing communications office in the River Street House through Friday, July 20.

Next week, if you are interested in having the book circulated in your department, contact Janelle Olivarez (jolivarez@georgefox.edu) to arrange for pick-up. The book will eventually be shipped to Tamara in Indiana, where she will work as the associate vice president of marketing communication at Earlham College.

Final call for fiscal year 2012 revenue and expenses

Friday, July 20, will be the financial affairs office’s cutoff date for entering fiscal year 2012 revenue and/or expenses. Please submit appropriate paperwork as soon as possible for any revenues earned or expenses incurred prior to the end of FY2012 (June 30, 2012).

Please remember that these revenues and/or expenses must be included as fiscal year 2012 entries and may not be deferred to fiscal year 2013.

Early call for June time sheets and time-off reports

We always appreciate receiving the previous month’s time sheets and time-off reports early in the new month, but we are especially anxious to receive June’s each year. If you haven’t already, please send us your June time-off report or time sheet by this Thursday, July 12, so we can enter vacation and sick leave used in June. This will enable the folks in Financial Affairs to report fiscal year-end balances, which will help them finish their work of closing the books on 2011-12.

If you have any time-off reports or time sheets from earlier in 2011-12 that you have not yet submitted, please turn those in as well. If a supervisor’s absence will cause a delay, please send HR a copy and submit the original after it has both yours and your supervisor’s signatures.

For those who place supply orders through our online sites with Office Depot and/or Staples, I wanted to give you a heads-up that an order must meet a minimum order value (MOV) threshold before it can be processed.

The minimum for Office Depot is $50 and the minimum for Staples is $75. When placing an order, you may continue to add items to your shopping cart until you reach the MOV threshold. Once the threshold has been reached, you can proceed to checkout.

Volunteers Needed for Special Olympics Summer State Games

George Fox is honored to once again to partner with the Oregon Special Olympics State Games as a host site.  The Games are in need of volunteers – please consider serving the community at this great event.

The Summer Games are the state championship competitions in the sports of athletics (track & field), bocce, golf and softball for Special Olympics Oregon athletes.  All athletes and teams have trained in their hometowns for 8 weeks prior to the Summer Games and have qualified to compete at the Summer State Games at a regional level competition.

Date:  July 14 – 15, 2012

Sports:   Athletics (Track & Field), Bocce, Golf Softball

Positions Include:  Sports venues—timers, scorekeepers, runners, announcers, staging, results, forecaddies, judges, spotters, awards, officials, umpires, lunch distribution, set-up, tear-down.  There are also opportunities to help at Olympic Town, Healthy Athletes, lunch support and many other things.

Time:   Generally, volunteer shifts are 4—5 hours on either Saturday or Sunday.

Age:  You must be 16 years or older to volunteer independently. Children 12 – 15 years old must volunteer with a parent.

Training:  We will have key volunteers provide training at the beginning of your shift.
