Director of African orphanage speaks tonight

Monday, September 10th, 2012

Don’t forget tonight’s presentation by Lutaaya Abul, director of African Hearts Orphanage in Kampala, Uganda, at 7 p.m. in EHS 102.

Lutaaya  grew up in the gutters of Kampala, started to attend a church, became involved in music, and started the African Hearts Orphanage. The organization’s target population is children who are living on the street, many of whom have been orphaned by HIV or abandoned or victimized by family violence. Our Juniors Abroad groups visit the orphanage when we travel to East Africa.

The organization currently runs two homes housing former street children in Kampala and Ssenge. Children living in these homes are taught the Bible and are provided with shelter, food, love and education.

School of Business hosts free financial seminar Sept. 21

The university community is invited to a free presentation, “Financially Alive: Wealth Creation, Social Responsibility, Biblical Values,” scheduled from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Portland Center on Friday, Sept. 21.

The event, the latest installment of the School of Business’ Speaker Series, will feature Chris Meade, director of George Fox’s MBA programs and an assistant professor of management. Is it possible to not just survive but actually thrive in this new economy?”

Based on Meade’s latest book, Financially Alive: Wealth Creation. Social Responsibility. Biblical Values, the workshop is a mix of ancient wisdom literature, modern MBA business thinking, and 21st-century leadership principles. Meade’s talk on finances comes alive with his use of “white board scribbles” – visual, image-based original whiteboard artwork – throughout his presentation.

Those interested in attending are asked to R.S.V.P. by Sept. 14 by filling out a registration form at this link. More information is also available by calling Darla Norgren at 503-554-6176. The event includes free coffee and tea.

Print Services: Copyright permissions policy

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

Please keep in mind that we as a university have an obligation to uphold the copyright laws for all of our textbooks. The law allows any user to make one (1) copy for “fair use,” for personal use and reference only.

You are welcome to bring your books and documents to Print Services, and we are happy to do the research for you. Please know the research process takes about four to six weeks to get an approval. Be cautious if you need to make multiple copies of any books, magazine or newspaper articles; you will need to obtain some sort of documentation showing that you have been granted permission to make copies.

If you have any questions, please feel free to give me call at ext. 2551.

Thank you,
Richard Silver, Print Services

Kick off new semester with iGFU

Friday, August 24th, 2012

Don’t forget to let iGFU.georgefox.edu help you kickoff the new semester. We have a new option for how faculty can display photos of all their students in a class if you are on a large screen device like a computer or iPad.

On your course roster page select the “Photos” option at the top to display all of your students’ photos. A good way to learn their names. And remember, if you see an icon associated with an iGFU service, tap it to see what it may provide.
