Plan to attend staff conference on Oct. 23

The support staff conference is next week, on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Our keynote speaker, Christopher Meade, director of the MBA programs, will speak on the topic “Anchor Deep.”

This nautical-themed conference will stop at two “ports of call” of your choice. Support staff are already pre-registered for the conference, but please complete a registration form at this link – Staff Fall Conference Registration – if you haven’t done so already. The selections for choosing your port of call are on this form, as well as indication for any dietary restrictions.

The conference will take place from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Family Life Church in Newberg. The church is located at 502 St. Paul Highway.

‘The Servant of Two Masters’ opens next week in Wood-Mar Auditorium

The university’s theatre season kicks off next Thursday, Oct. 25, with a fall comedy, The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni. The show runs for two weekends, Oct. 25-27 and Nov. 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. All shows are scheduled in Wood-Mar Auditorium.

All George Fox students may receive a complimentary ticket for Thursday evening performances. All faculty and staff are entitled to one complimentary ticket for any show of the run.

Play Description: This celebrated comic masterpiece, written in 1743 in the great Italian tradition of Commedia Dell’Arte, tells the story of Truffaldino, a young, simpleminded and occasionally clever servant who finds himself in over his head when he impulsively agrees to manage two masters at the same time without either of them knowing about it. The play also features two pairs of swooning lovers, two angry fathers, and a host of additional simpleminded servants.

Long-term care insurance meetings scheduled this week

Long-term care insurance information meetings are scheduled Tuesday through Friday this week.

  • The first meeting is at the Portland Center on Tuesday (Oct. 16) at 9 a.m. in Room 281.
  • On Wednesday (Oct. 17), there will be two meetings on the Newberg campus, one at 10:30 a.m. in VAC 180 and the other at 2 p.m. in the Executive Dining Room.
  • Webinars and two more Newberg campus meetings are scheduled throughout the week as well. Please click here for the details.

These meetings provide a great opportunity to learn more about long-term care insurance. If you decide it is a good approach to protect your financial future, during this special enrollment you can sign up with streamlined underwriting (few or no health questions to answer, depending on your age).

This year Bon Appetit has joined with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as a corporate sponsor to help raise funds for cancer research.  LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding patient support services, advocacy and promising cancer research.

‘Seminary Fair Plus’ scheduled for Oct. 23 on Newberg campus

All are invited to “Seminary Fair Plus” on the Newberg campus on Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the atrium of the Hoover Academic Building. The event is designed for those interested in pursuing religious or professional higher education.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives from a variety of seminaries as well as George Fox graduate programs will be available to connect with prospective students who desire to be equipped for ministry or professional education.

Digitized ‘Crescents’ available online

Through a digitization project of the George Fox University/Northwest Yearly Meeting archives, The Crescent, George Fox University’s student newspaper, is now available online from 1891 to 1931. Papers can be accessed at this link.

Digitization efforts are ongoing and will result in additional issues being made available online. For further information, contact Zoie Clark, archivist, at ext. 2415, or Rob Bohall, reference librarian, at ext. 2416. The GFU/NWYM Archives is located in the Murdock Learning Resource Center.

Outgoing U.S. Mail won’t go out until Tuesday

There will be no outgoing U.S. Mail today (Monday) due to the Columbus Day holiday. Most of the other carriers such as UPS and FedEx will be operating as normal. Campus mail will also be sorted throughout the day.

Pre-professional health info meeting set for Oct. 17

Are you interested in attending a professional health program after George Fox? Are you pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-veterinary, pre-physical therapy, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, etc.? Get informed on what it takes to get into a professional health program by attending a pre-professional information meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, in EHS 125.

The topics covered at the meeting will include admission requirements, the application process, and resources available to you at GFU. This meeting is an annual event, so you may not need to attend if you have done so before. New interested students should plan on it!

Free flu shots available for employees with Kaiser or Pioneer coverage

Although you can’t get free flu shots at our Health and Counseling Center (because it is not a contracted Regence or Kaiser provider), Kaiser members can go to Kaiser to get yours free, and Pioneer members can go to practically any pharmacy/grocery in town for a free flu shot.

You just need to ask first if they are a contracted provider for Regence BCBS and show your insurance card. If the answer is yes, your flu shot is free (except for that little bit of “ouch”).

Flu shots available at Health & Counseling Center
