Starting Monday, May 5, the parking lot for the Pennington residence hall and the east end of the Bauman lot, near the grandstands, are going to be barricaded off and will need to be free of all vehicles. There will be construction taking place over the summer, and vehicles may not be left there.
Please help us keep these areas free of vehicle parking so the workers and equipment can move freely and safely during the summer. We will notify you of when the lots will be available for use in the future. If your vehicle is left, it will be towed at your expense.
If you are leaving for the summer and need to leave a vehicle, contact security at 503-554-2090 and we will inform you of the options you have.
Thank you,
– Security Services

Faculty elections will be held for most faculty on Wednesday and Thursday, April 23-24. With 23 different positions to fill, this will be an important opportunity for you to influence the direction of the Faculty Senate, the Faculty Council and the Faculty Personnel Committee, among other offices.
All regular faculty half time and above will receive overnight Tuesday/Wednesday an email from Ron Mock, the 2012-14 Faculty Representative, with instructions for how to vote. We are using a new system this year that will allow for confidential voting while eliminating the risk of double-voting.
Look for the email, follow the instructions, and vote by the end of the day Thursday!

All university employees are invited to celebrate with us as we honor retiring Gary Kilburg with a reception on Monday, May 5, in the Villa Academic Complex’s Room 117. The event will run from 4 to 6 p.m.
Throughout Gary’s career, he has modeled professionalism, kindness, and the love of Christ to his colleagues and students. He has served the university family for 22 years, taking on leadership roles and forming foundational work in the area of mentoring for the College of Education. His teaching has regularly set the standard for young professors, modeling for each one of us what it means to be an effective educator. His students often remark on the care Gary’s teaching demonstrates.
Gary earned the Graduate Faculty Member of the Year award in 2006-2007. He has mentored teachers and administrators in both public and private schools. His door is always open and both students and faculty often find themselves slipping into his office for a bit of calm, thoughtful advice. He will be missed more than he can possibly know.
Please join us in celebrating Gary’s work with us and wishing him well in retirement.

All are invited to Shary Wortman’s retirement celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 28, at the Redmond Center located at Ridgeview High School in Redmond, Ore.
Shary has served the community of Central Oregon through teaching, administration, and most recently, through her work as a teacher educator at George Fox. She joined the MAT team in 2005 and worked to give us a strong foundation in the Redmond area. Her work is marked by warm, personal touches that allow each student and faculty member to be truly known.
While directing the MAT team in Redmond, Shary worked on internationalizing teacher education. She is part of a writing team and has several publications to her credit. She traveled with students to Vienna, Austria, to work in schools and at a refugee center.
Shary is all about teaching. She has been instrumental in teaching and supporting the 110-plus George Fox-trained teachers who are serving in Central Oregon schools. Her laughter, wisdom and kindness will be missed.
Please join us in celebrating the work of Shary and wishing her well in her retirement.

Please plan now for the institution-wide stationery order taken at the end of August. The collective order helps keep costs low – the higher the volume, the lower the cost. Consequently, it is most economical to overestimate needs and store a small surplus.
I will be accepting orders from now through Monday, Aug. 18, when orders are due.
For order instructions, go to the marketing communications website. Continue to purchase all non-departmental stationery (including “second-sheet letterheadâ€) through the university’s print services.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Danette Newkirk (dnewkirk@georgefox.edu)

Please join us as we say farewell to longtime George Fox employee Eilene Newman on Wednesday, April 23, between 2 and 3:30 p.m. in Portland Center’s Room 155. Refreshments will be served.
Eilene has worked at the university for 22 years. She started at Tilikum Retreat Center as an administrative assistant in 1992. She went to work for ADP from 1994 to 2008, first on the Newberg campus in the basement of Minthorn Hall, until ADP moved in 2000 to the Portland Center.
Since 2008, Eilene has worked in the library at the Portland Center. She was a work-study student at the Newberg campus library, so it is fitting that she ends her work at the university in one of her favorite places.
