Mail and print services: Housekeeping items to keep in mind

Wednesday, August 19th, 2015

With the start of school right around the corner, here are some housekeeping items to keep in mind in regards to mail and print services …

Mail Services – Extended Hours
Mail services will have special extended hours for students to receive their mail and packages:

  • Saturday, Aug. 29, 2-4 p.m.
  • During the first week of school, Aug. 31 – Sept. 4, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The week of Sept. 7, mail services will return to its regular schedule of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Please have your student ID card and/or driver’s license with you when you come pick up your packages. A photo from your phones or tablets is not acceptable and your packages will not be handed over to you.

Department Lanyards
Please remember that department lanyards are required when a student worker comes to pick up department mail and packages in mail services. Mail services will not release the mail or packages without the department lanyard. If your department has not received a new lanyard for the 2015-16 academic year, please contact Richard Silver (rsilver@georgefox.edu) ASAP.

Chart of Accounts
Chart of accounts numbers are required for all print jobs and also when sending department mail or packages out. It is not mail and print services job to know your department’s chart of accounts number. This will help make the process run smoothly and efficiently.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Richard Silver at 503-554-2551 or rsilver@georgefox.edu.

Vehicle registration required for all staff, faculty and adjuncts

Tuesday, August 18th, 2015

Thank you to the 290 of you who have already completed the vehicle registration process! This is just a reminder that all white staff hang tags and orange adjunct permits (with an expiration date of Dec. 31, 2015 or earlier) are now null and void. We have a new vehicle registration database and need everybody to please go on MyGFU and register as soon as possible.

The adjunct hang tags will be valid until Dec. 31, 2016 for this initial go-round and yearly thereafter, and the staff hang tags don’t expire. Please remember to put your GFU PO box number on the second line of the “mailing address,” as no permits will be mailed; they will all be sent to your campus PO box.

Every staff/faculty/adjunct are allotted one gratis permit that can be switched between vehicles. Or, if you’d prefer to not switch it between vehicles, then additional hang tags can be purchased for $5 cash each in the security office. If you desire to purchase additional hang tags, please go on MyGFU to the vehicle registration link underneath “GFU Resources” and register your main car. Then bring the DMV registration card with you to the security office and we will register the additional vehicles/permits to you in the office, and you can pay there.

If you want to switch permits between cars, then please register ALL of your vehicles at the same time. Many hints and tips have been published in the Daily Bruin during the past three weeks for your reference. Portland employees don’t need to register unless they are frequently on the Newberg campus.

Questions? Stuck on one part or another? We are ready to help! Either call Nadine or Ed during office hours at 503-554-2090, or e-mail Nadine Kincaid at nkincaid@georgefox.edu.

Football tickets for George Fox employees

Sunday, August 16th, 2015

George Fox University’s football program is back for its second year following its inaugural season on the gridiron. In 2014 the Bruins played in front of a Northwest Conference-leading crowd of more than 3,000 fans per game, had a player named to the NCAA Division III national team of the week, and secured their first victory as a new program against Lewis & Clark College.

In the 2015 season, all George Fox employees are entitled to free entry into the uncovered general admission bleachers at home football games when they show their George Fox ID at the gate. Children under 10 are also admitted for free. If you need additional tickets, you can purchase them at the gate or in advance here.

Employees who are interested in purchasing reserved season tickets in the covered grandstands can do so here.

If you have any questions, please call Sarah Reid at x2105 or send her an email at sreid@georgefox.edu.

Register your vehicles now

Thursday, August 13th, 2015

Welcome back to all returning staff and faculty, and welcome to all those new to George Fox! Vehicle registration is in full swing, and there have been many announcements during the past three weeks explaining the process. We ask that you complete this process as soon as possible so we can give our undivided attention to students when they arrive. Here are instructions and tips:

  1. The Vehicle Registration link is located under GFU Resources on myGFU - not under University Forms.
  2. Sign in using your seven-digit ID number, which is in between the dashes on your ID card. If your card is old and only has six digits in-between the dashes, then add a “1” before those six digits.
  3. Have your DMV vehicle registration card in front of you for each car you want to register on the one gratis permit and enter them one after another.
  4. If you need to purchase extra permits for additional cars, bring $5 cash per permit and the vehicle information to the Security office and we will register you there and hand you your permit for the extra vehicles.
  5. Please include your campus PO box number on the second line of the “mailing address” section. Your permits will be sent to your campus PO box – they will not be mailed to any other address.
  6. Your GFU ID number is linked to your preferred name, and that is what will auto-populate in the database, not your legal name. No worries - that will still work.
  7. If you did not receive a confirmation email that your registration was completed, it didn’t go through. Call Nadine Kincaid or Ed Gierok in Security at 503-554-2090 to troubleshoot the issue.
  8. We’re here to help! Call us or send an email to egierok@georgefox.edu if you have a situation that is out-of-the-box or are having difficulties. This is new for us as well, so we will work it out together.
  9. Portland employees need to register only if they regularly are on the Newberg campus.

Open your home to an international student

Monday, August 10th, 2015

This fall George Fox University is expecting more than 50 new international students. Their first point of contact with our school is during International Student Orientation. This orientation begins several days earlier than the general new student orientation, and if we were to house these students on campus they would be staying in near empty buildings in rooms without their American roommates. Our desire is to place all of our incoming international students with host families during international orientation.

Would you or someone you know be willing to serve as a host family for an international student during this time?

Our students will begin arriving Aug. 19 and 20. You can choose to host one or two students in your home during the evenings between Aug. 19 and Aug. 26, including all day on the weekend of Aug. 22-23. Families are asked to provide breakfast and dinner. Lunch will be provided by the university during orientation. We also ask families to provide transportation to George Fox between 8-8:30 a.m. and to pick students up at approximately 5-5:30 p.m. Host families will receive a stipend to help cover the costs of meals and transportation.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this great opportunity to share the love of Christ with our new international students. Please contact Alex Pia at apia@georgefox.edu if your are interested or have any questions.
