As part of the university’s 125th anniversary celebration, special guest Peter Kreeft, PhD, a professor of philosophy from Boston College, will speak in Bauman Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17. The title of his presentation is “Lewis & Tolkien: Christian Faith in a Postmodern World.”
Kreeft is the author of 75 books as well as a popular writer of Christian philosophy, theology and apologetics. His books include Handbook of Christian Apologetics, Christianity for Modern Pagans and Fundamentals of the Faith. Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The university’s Department of Biology and Chemistry invites you to join us for the seventh annual Dalton Lecture at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, Feb. 9, in Bauman Auditorium.
Dr. Jennifer Wiseman, a senior astrophysicist at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, will speak on the topic “Universe of Wonder: Galaxies, Stars, Planets and Life.” Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
In the presentation, Wiseman will investigate what new discoveries are revealing about the cosmos and the significance of life in a dynamic universe. She will also give a scientific talk at 3 p.m. on Feb. 9 in Wood-Mar Auditorium entitled, “Frontiers of Astronomical Discovery: Galaxies, Dark Energy, Planets and Life.”
Wiseman received her BS in physics from MIT, discovering comet Wiseman-Skiff in 1987, and continued her studies at Harvard, earning a PhD in astronomy in 1995. She is a Fellow of the American Scientific Affiliation, a network of Christians in Science. She has authored several essays addressing the relationship of astronomy and the Christian faith.
A dessert reception and Student Research Poster session follows the lecture.

The William Penn Honors Program invites you to hear Peter Iver Kaufman speak on “Leadership and the Humanities” on Thursday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.
Kaufman is a professor at the University of Richmond in the Jepson School of Leadership Studies and professor emeritus at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill’s history and religious studies departments. He teaches a wide range of leadership courses.

The music of Schubert, Schumann, Beethoven and Gershwin will fill Bauman Auditorium when Soheil Nasseri, an internationally renowned pianist, performs for the university’s 11th annual Bösendorfer Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16.
All employees and students are entitled to one free ticket. Additional tickets are $12 for general admission, $8 for seniors and alumni, and $6 for students and children under 12. All tickets are reserved seating and are available at this link or at the University Box Office by calling 503-554-3844.
Nasseri has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Berlin’s Philharmonie and Konzerthaus, London’s Purcell Room at the Southbank Centre, Tokyo’s Musashino Center, Théâtre Fémina in Bordeaux, Florence’s Teatro Comunale, St. Petersburg’s Philharmonia, and Palermo, Italy’s Teatro Politeama.
He will perform four pieces: Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor, D 784, Schumann’s, Carnaval, Op. 9, Beethoven’s Sonata No. 7 in D Major, Op. 10 No. 3, and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

The university’s Individual and Family Matters Counseling Clinic is hosting an eight-week group at the Portland Center that will offer all students or professionals in the fields of education, mental health, physical health or ministry the opportunity to improve the quality of their connections and overall care of the people they serve.
This group is based in Relational Cultural Theory and will also offer insights and growth for working with diverse communities and individuals. The whole group costs $40 and begins Thursday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m.

The Oregon Historical Society’s special anniversary exhibit, “Vision, Mission, Values: 125 Years of George Fox University,†will end this Sunday, Feb. 5. As the oldest Christian institution in Oregon, we have a lot of history to share!
The exhibit highlights key individuals who shaped our story, special places and unique artifacts from campus life over the past 125 years.
