Come hear about Team Drives, a new feature of Google Drive and a great tool for accessing and storing files that are shared among a group, such as a department or committee. They are quick and easy to create.
Learn when and why you would want to use them at a special staff lunch on Wednesday, Nov. 1, from noon to 1 p.m. in Canyon Commons 101. Please RSVP to Peg Hutton at phutton@georgefox.edu by Wednesday, Nov. 1.
George Fox alumni, current students and employees are invited to hear from business industry expert Mike Van Wyk tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. in Portland Center’s Room 155.
Mike has more than 20 years of consumer research and brand-building experience at large companies like Proctor Gamble and currently is the VP of customer research and insights for Capital Group. He will speak on the topic of purpose-driven brand building. A Q&A session will follow.
Coffee and desserts will be served. The event is free, but please register here. The event is being hosted by the College of Business and the Business Leadership Society.
A few weeks ago Marketing Communications migrated www.georgefox.edu (not athletics.georgefox.edu, blogs.georgefox.edu, etc.) from using the insecure HTTP protocol (e.g. http://www.georgefox.edu/) to the secure HTTPS protocol (e.g. https://www.georgefox.edu).
Now we need to update links to www.georgefox.edu in our emails and other materials.
This just requires adding an “s” to the protocol to make this change (e.g. http://www.georgefox.edu/ -> https://www.georgefox.edu/).
This change needs to be made in all digital media that links to www.georgefox.edu: emails, email signatures, saved text to be pasted into emails, PDFs, links on other websites (not links *on* www.georgefox.edu), etc.
In print materials, it’s still fine to use URLs that do not include the protocol (e.g. georgefox.edu/visit).
Please take a moment to update links to www.georgefox.edu in any digital media you manage.
Questions? Email Peter Crackenberg at pcrackenberg@georgefox.edu.

The meeting was moved to better accommodate Bruin Preview guests on Thursday, Oct. 26.
See you there!

Security Services will be conducting a test of the FoxAlert emergency notification system sometime next week. In order to ensure you receive this test emergency alert, please log on to MyGFU and select the “Self Service” option, then “Personal Information.” Select the “Phone” option underneath “Personal Information.” Your cell phone number should have a check by it as your preferred phone in order to receive the emergency alert.
Please do this before next week so that you will receive the text test alert.
Thank you,

The university and the community are invited to the 2017 Fall Faculty Lecture, “Earth, Solar Wind and Sun,†featuring Bob Hamilton, PhD, professor of physics, and recipient of the 2016-17 Undergraduate Faculty Achievement Award for Research and Scholarship.
Join us tomorrow (Tuesday) for the presentation. The lecture runs from 6 to 7 p.m. in Hoover 105. Hamilton will discuss the recent eclipse and how this rare sight illustrates the sun’s intricate and dynamic role in shaping the larger, unseen environment of the earth. The sun shapes both the solar wind and the magnetic field which encompass our entire solar system. Highlights from research conducted by and with students at George Fox University will be presented using graphics and animations.
Prior to the lecture that evening, the 2017 Fall Richter Student Scholars Symposium will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Hoover lobby. Student scholars from the university’s graduate and undergraduate programs will present their research in a conversational poster format. Refreshments will be provided by the Faculty Development Committee.
Contact Laurie Fair (lfair@georgefox.edu) with questions.
Come join Portland Seminary’s Leah Payne as she hosts a “Turning the Page” session with The Saint John’s Bible today (Friday) from 4 to 4:20 p.m. in the Special Collections Room in the upstairs of the Murdock Learning Resource Center on the Newberg campus. All are welcome!
