Please only park where your permit allows

Thursday, September 6th, 2018

Students: We are receiving many calls from neighbors about all the student cars stashed in the neighborhoods surrounding the school. You must park ONLY where your permit allows or your car will be ticketed, and the neighborhoods are off-limits.

If you have yet to register, please do so immediately on MyGFU and park in your designated areas. Even if you have been already been charged for a parking permit as a commuter or grad student, you still need to register your vehicle on MyGFU and place your permit on the rear window of your vehicle.

If you do not know where your permit allows you to park, then come immediately to the Campus Public Safety office or refer to the parking brochure that came with your permit to avoid a parking ticket.

The parking brochure is also online if you are still waiting for your permit to arrive. We know you have better things to do with your money than pay parking tickets, so please pay attention to these details!

Reminder of university’s new recycling policy

Wednesday, September 5th, 2018

As a reminder of the university’s recent change in recycling policy, here is an overview …

The national recycle market has drastically changed. There now is no market for some common recyclables, leaving recyclers scrambling to find locations to send materials. This is not simply a George Fox issue, but a global market issue. Skyrocketing prices and lack of a domestic market for some materials prompted the university to change how we recycle.

As a result, these are the changes made to the recycling program:

  • Containers for recycling clean and flattened cardboard are located at Canyon Commons and the Thomas Center.
  • The recycling of metal, glass, batteries, electronics, yard debris, redeemable bottles and cans, confidential shredding, and some other select materials continues unchanged.
  • The glass recycle barrels in garbage enclosures remain, and new metal recycle barrels for tin cans, aluminum cans and other metals will be added.
  • Commingled recycling has been discontinued. As a result, desk-side and commingled recycling has been removed from all offices and student housing. All blue desk-side bins and bag stands have been removed.
  • When a department has large amounts of cardboard to recycle, a Plant Services staff member will be happy to come by and pick it up.

Any questions can be directed to Trevor Woods, waste stream manager, at twoods@georgefox.edu.

Church lifts: An easy way to get to church Sundays in September

Wednesday, September 5th, 2018

Are you looking for a church home while you are at George Fox? The Office for Spiritual Life has this webpage to help you get connected with area churches. A number of area churches are sending September shuttles to our campus to make it easy for you to get to church. The following churches have worked with the spiritual life office and have agreed to ensure your safety by adhering to these university stipulations: two representatives in the vehicle, a sign clearly marking the vehicle, and pick-up and drop-off before and after services.

Though these churches are trusted community partners, we ask you to use discretion in your church search and travel. Please contact spirituallife@georgefox.edu or call 503-554-2320 with any questions!
