Author Gabe Lyons is on campus tonight (Friday) to present a free lecture, “Faithfulness in the Age of Distraction,†at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium. Lyons is coauthor of Good Faith (2016) and unChristian (2007) and the author of The Next Christians (2010), a manifesto for how Christians can faithfully lead in a changing culture.
Lyons’ talk will pierce through your scattered, frantic day-to-day – the too-tight schedules, the looming deadlines, the constant technological buzz – everything that has become a barrier to our relationship with God and others. You’ll come away with new tools and a refreshed perspective on what it takes to live out the gospel in our modern world.
Chapel credit is available to students who attend! To learn more, visit this page.

Come and learn Latin for the first time, or keep your Latin fresh! Come to the Armstrong House classroom from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Join us next week, Oct. 3, if you missed our first meeting. Here is what to expect:
- Non-sequential: It is not necessary to come to every class session in order, so if you miss one, no problem (the more you come, the more you’ll learn)
- Drop-in: There is no need to come for the entire two and a half hours
- Material at various levels will be presented, so absolute beginners to intermediate students are welcome
- No cost: Materials and reading will be provided electronically
About the instructor:
Joshua Smith is in his 15th year of teaching Latin, Ancient Greek, and Humane Letters (Ancient Rome through Dante) at Veritas School, a classical Christian school here in Newberg. He has also studied in Italy under the National Endowment for the Humanities, presented on Latin pedagogy at local and national teaching conferences, and recently published a Latin-English parallel text of Virgil’s Aeneid.
Feel free to email Joshua at (jsmith@veritasschool.net) with any questions about the class or the Latin language.
