The Nutrition Matters Grant at George Fox is sponsoring another cooking demonstration. If you would like to learn how to make a healthy 30-minute meal, join us in Canyon Commons tonight (Wednesday) from 5 to 6 p.m.

Emily Forbes, a George Fox alumna and local nutritionist, is passionate about helping students learn to make healthy meals. You will walk away with a sample, knowledge of how to make a dish, and the recipe. It’s like watching a cooking show, but you actually get to taste the food!

This semester you have the opportunity to work with the Newberg Animal Shelter in business-centered volunteer positions. Currently, there are three volunteer positions available exclusively to George Fox College of Business students looking to gain experience in the fields of marketing and management.

We will be pairing with the Newberg Animal Shelter to provide support for the biggest fundraising event of the year: their annual Wine and Whiskers gala! These volunteer positions directly relate to the success of this event, and Newberg Animal Shelter needs your help.

It’s never too early to start thinking about Peace Corps service, a 27-month commitment following graduation.

Peace Corps recruiter Scot Roskelley will be on campus tomorrow (Wednesday) to conduct an informational session at 4 p.m. in Stevens 109. The Peace Corps especially needs individuals with degrees in biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, health education, education, business, math, Spanish and French. People with farm and nursery experience are also in high demand.

Join the College of Business’ visiting scholar, David Rawson, this Friday, March 1, from 5 to 9 p.m., when he will be signing copies of his new book, Prelude to Genocide, at Chapters Books and Coffee (701 E. 1st St.).

In Prelude to Genocide, Rawson draws on declassified documents and his own experiences as a United States ambassador to Mali and Rwanda to seek out what went wrong in the events leading up to the 1994 Rwandan genocide, in which 800,000 lives were lost. It poses the question, “What lessons might be learned from the failure of diplomacy in this historic tragedy?”

Registration is now open for our undergraduate students. Class sections are limited to 20 students each, and they fill up fast. Excellent general education options in BIBL, CHEM, RELI, MATH, HUMA, MUSI, PHYS, ACCT, and more are available.

The courses run for eight weeks for full credit, and the fee is 50 percent off normal tuition. In some cases, your financial aid package can be used to cover the cost; check with Financial Aid for details.

The courses are all taught by experienced, devoted faculty members with a track record of success in online teaching. If you have questions about the applicability of a particular class to your degree requirements, contact your CAP Coach for more information.

The Business Bridge is hosting our first speaker event of the semester! Drew Force will be joining us tonight (Tuesday) from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Stevens 207. Come for an evening of discussion with free Chipotle food.

For nearly 20 years, Drew managed and led Riley Weiss, a brand consulting and design firm based in Portland. He has worked in brand development, messaging, advertising and graphic design for 30 years.

Currently, Drew runs Force Brand Design, based in Dundee, where his clients include adidas and several companies in financial services and manufacturing.

The Intercultural Resource Center is looking for students who are interested in being LEAD mentors for the 2019-20 academic school year.

The Lead, Engage, Achieve, Develop (LEAD) Mentorship Program matches first-year students of color with upper-level student mentors and helps new students find a sense of belonging and community on campus. Mentors are volunteers that have the opportunity to walk alongside a first-year student to discuss anything ranging from class to larger-life questions.
