PT program’s Africa service trip hosts banquet and auction fundraiser

This summer the university’s physical therapy department is taking a medical service trip to Ghana and Uganda to serve a diverse and less privileged community.

To help raise funds for the trip, we are hosting a banquet on Saturday, April 6, at 5 p.m. in Canyon Commons. Tickets are $25 and include dinner and a silent auction.

We are conducting a survey that looks at the perceived barriers to exercise in college students and George Fox employees for our senior seminar research project. This survey applies to individuals who consider themselves active, inactive, and every fitness level in between.

The George Fox theatre department opens its spring drama The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in early April. Come join us for this Tony Award-winning play about the mystery of the human mind and the power of forgiveness.

The show runs in Wood-Mar Auditorium April 4-6 and April 11-13 at 7:30 p.m., and will also include 2 p.m. matinee performances on Sunday, April 7, and Sunday, April 14. Open captioning will be available for the shows on April 7 and 11.

Student tickets are free both Thursdays, April 4 and 11. Please bring your student ID to the door (your name needs to be on your ticket). Employees are provided with one complimentary ticket for any of the shows.

The School of Physical Therapy is excited to host Dr. Jason Wilken to lecture on the topic “Stairs as a Model for Understanding Prosthetic Device Development” tonight (Tuesday) in Canyon Commons 101 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

This presentation will expand the clinician’s understanding and appreciation of the biomechanics, technology and patient factors that drive state-of-the-art prosthesis and development. Please join us for a high-level and engaging talk with Dr. Wilken. Light refreshments will be served.

Wilken is an associate professor and director of collaborative research and development in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Iowa.

Nominate seniors for C.W. Perry Servant Leadership Award

Do you know a senior who demonstrates outstanding service as a servant leader on campus or in the community? You can honor that person and the activity of voluntary service by nominating him or her for the C.W. Perry Servant Leadership Award.

In order for your nominee to qualify, this nomination form must be received by Friday, March 22.

The trustees of the Barney II and Moore Foundations have established the C.W. Perry Servant Leadership Award at George Fox University to reward leadership in the area of community and ministry service.

Only seniors (graduating in May 2019) are eligible for award consideration. Up to four $1,000 awards will be given annually. Each award recipient will be required to set aside $250 of this gift to the charitable organization of his or her choice. The remaining $750 will be distributed to the award recipient in the form of a cash award.

Hadlock Student Center announces spring break discounts on rental gear

Are you adventuring for spring break and need some gear to be comfy in the outdoors? The Hadlock Rental Center can help you out without breaking the bank.

Rentals of $10 or more will be eligible for a 20 percent discount from Friday, March 22, through Sunday, March 31. This means a weekend kayak or paddleboard rental is $16 and single-day snowshoe, trekking pole or gaiter rentals are all under $10. Reserve gear at the Hadlock Student Center front desk or online.

PT students need volunteers for skin screenings

The School of Physical Therapy is looking for volunteers for a skin screening session on Wednesday, April 3, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Roberts Center. Second-year physical therapy students, along with a medical doctor, will review your skin for any abnormalities.
