Christian Summer Camp Job Fair arrives on campus tomorrow

Tired of working retail for the third summer in a row? Looking for a summer job with a purpose? Come check out the Christian Summer Camp Job Fair tomorrow (Tuesday) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the EHS Atrium.

There are many ministries from all over the Northwest coming to meet you! Positions are available in youth counseling, adventure camping, horse camping, challenge course facilitating, kitchen staff, life guarding, housekeeping, and more!

Donate your bottles and cans to nursing’s Kenya serve trip

The George Fox nursing department Kenya serve team is hosting a bottle and can drive to raise money for our serve trip to Kenya in June!

Are you planning a big Super Bowl Party? Have a bunch of bottles and cans you want to have taken off your hands? These awesome ladies will be available to do so all day on Sunday, Feb. 10!

Pick-ups can be arranged on Sunday, Feb. 10, and drop-offs can be made at George Fox anytime during the week of Feb. 4-10 (contact us for a location). Please text 503-863-0662 with your name, address, and time for pick-up on Feb. 10. Please remember that cans must not be crushed, and labels must remain on the bottles for us to be able to pick them up.

‘The Defining Debate in Political Economy’ lecture presented tonight

The university community is invited to a special lecture, “The Defining Debate in Political Economy: Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy,” at 6:30 p.m. tonight (Monday) in Hoover 105.

Presenting will be Peter Boettke, a professor of economics and philosophy at George Mason University and director of the F.A. Hayek Program for Advanced Study in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the Mercatus Center. His topic will touch on the intersection of economics, business, policy and human flourishing.

The event is the latest installment of the annual Reiten Executive in Residence lecture series, hosted by the university’s College of Business.

Boettke has thought deeply and written about the issues of economic freedom and organization in society, as well as the moral and philosophical underpinnings of various political economic systems. He is an economist of the Austrian School and an author on a new book on F.A. Hayek: Economics, Political Economy and Social Philosophy.

Boettke received his PhD in economics from George Mason University in 1989 and has also taught at New York University, Stanford University, and the London School of Economics.

Watch cooking demonstration by local nutritionist

The Nutrition Matters Grant at George Fox University is sponsoring upcoming cooking demonstrations. If you would like to learn how to make a healthy meal, join us in Canyon Commons on Feb. 20, 27, and March 5 from 5 to 6 p.m.

Emily Forbes, George Fox University alumna and local nutritionist is passionate about helping students learn to make healthy meals. You will walk away with a sample, knowledge of how to make a dish, and the recipe. It’s like watching a cooking show, but you actually get to taste the food!

Join in fun of bear toss at women’s basketball game today

Today (Saturday) at 4 p.m., join Team Emery and George Fox athletics for an inaugural bear toss! The toss will take place at halftime of the woman’s basketball game against Lewis & Clark. All bears will be given to sick children in hospitals as well as to the Newberg police and fire departments.

Many of the kids in the hospital have nothing. What might be just a bear to you represents hope, encouragement and bravery to them. Pick up a new bear, throw it at the game, and help remind these sick patients that negative experiences don’t have to define you! See you at halftime!

Come support men’s and women’s basketball at Bruin FanFest today (Saturday) in Wheeler Gymnasium. The event begins at 3:30 p.m., just prior to the 4 p.m. tip-off of the women’s basketball game against Lewis & Clark. The men will tip off at 6 p.m.

The activities will include:

  • A Polaroid photo booth
  • A bounce house
  • A raffle and prizes  (show a picture with “Mama Bear” and get some free Stand Tall swag!)
  • Crafts
  • A henna tattoo artist
  • Face painting
  • A basketball shootout
  • Cotton candy
  • Exclusive Bruin FanFest T-shirt for sale ($6)
  • And more!

All activities are free, and everyone who wears Bruin gear will get free admission to the basketball games!

Finally, the evening will also include a teddy bear toss, “Bruins and Bears,” during halftime of the women’s game, for which the school is collecting new teddy bears as a donation to sick children in hospitals. Teddy bears can be purchased beforehand and brought to the game, or at the ticket tables at the game.

A reminder about reserved and handicapped parking spaces

Reserved parking spaces are reserved 24/7 and are to be occupied only by the department staff for which they are reserved. Also, handicapped spaces are to be used only by vehicles displaying a valid state handicapped permit. They are not for “dropping off” or “visiting” without a valid handicapped permit. This is an Oregon state law and is enforceable 24/7/365 in addition to yellow fire lanes.

Come to business lecture by owner of Jersey Girl Pizza

All are invited to “From the Ground Up: The Recipe for Turning Around a Business” on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in Portland Center 155.

This is a special guest talk on the business strategies leveraged to turn a local, failing pizza joint into a thriving business. Walt Porterfield, owner of Jersey Girl Pizza, will discuss his dedication, experience, and innovative process during this turnaround. He will be sharing his strategies and personal recipe for success!

Walt Porterfield purchased a failing pizza restaurant in 2016 in Hillsboro, Oregon, where yearly sales averaged just $74,000. Two and a half years and many improvements later, yearly sales have increased 6.5 times the original amount and are currently averaging $485,000.

If you have not done so already, “Grant Consent” now so that you will be ready when the form becomes available online! It is the fastest way to get a PDF of your tax form that can be downloaded and emailed.

Filing taxes early? Need to make sure your tax form makes it to someone else who is helping you with your taxes? Address change? Issues with USPS being stolen or hindered? We strongly recommend this option to all students.
