The editors are open to a wide range of styles and subject matter, but we are particularly looking for work that pushes boundaries and surprises us with its artistic approach and perspective of the world.

It’s on to the second round for our women’s basketball team! Come cheer on the Bruins today (Saturday) as we take on Washington University in the NCAA Division III Tournament! The game tips off at 5 p.m. on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

We will host a viewing party in the Hadlock Student Center lobby for those who wish to cheer on the Bruins together. It begins at 4:45 p.m. and lasts until about 7 p.m. A nacho bar is included. Students, employees and community members are all welcome!

George Fox earned a spot in today’s game with an 85-53 victory over Greenville in Friday’s first round.

Have you paid your housing selection fee? This one-time application fee must be paid by March 8 in order to go through the entire application. To check whether or not your fee has been paid, click on “Your Profile and Details” on the homepage of your application.

If you choose to go through housing selection as a group, you can create your roommate group in the application. Remember, your roommates must have started their application and paid their application fee in order to be searchable in the form.

This semester you have the opportunity to work with the Newberg Animal Shelter in business-centered volunteer positions. Currently, there are three volunteer positions available exclusively to George Fox College of Business students looking to gain experience in the fields of marketing and management.

We will be pairing with the Newberg Animal Shelter to provide support for the biggest fundraising event of the year – their annual Wine and Whiskers gala! These volunteer positions directly relate to the success of this event, and Newberg Animal Shelter needs your help.

Guided by the university pastors and in collaboration with a variety of faculty members, you will spend the year living in an on-campus house with other ministry-minded women. This community will grow in relationship with God together as we read, pray, worship, and discuss ideas that will enrich your ministry life – both now and in the future.

All are invited to participate in the university’s eighth annual International Photo Contest!

The contest, sponsored by the Office of International Student Development and Intercultural Resource Center, is open to all George Fox students and employees. Photos will be judged in three categories: people, landscape, and architecture and culture. All photos must be taken outside the U.S.

The prizes will be $50, $25 and $15 cash (for first-, second- and third-place winners) in each category. Participants may submit up to five photos total, with a maximum of three photos in the same category.

The top-10 finalists for each of the three categories will be hung in the Steven Center’s atrium for voting. Please send your JPG format photos to this link by Wednesday, March 6. Photo contest guidelines can be found here.

All are invited to the university’s annual Dalton Lecture at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 11, in Bauman Auditorium.

This year’s lecture, “Two Degrees of Separation: Climate Change and the Pursuit of Truth in a Post-truth World” will be presented by Richard L. Lindroth, the Vilas Distinguished Achievement professor of ecology and recent associate dean of research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Lindroth’s presentation will explore the fundamental premises of science, how humans engage with facts, and how to improve science communication across ideological, cultural and tribal divisions for the betterment of humanity and the sake of the world.

Following his presentation, a George Fox student research poster session and dessert reception will take place in the Bauman lobby.

Lindroth will also speak in a class in Wood-Mar Auditorium at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 11, presenting a lecture entitled “What Can Chemistry Tell Us about Ecology? Insights into the Ecological and Evolutionary Success of an Iconic Forest Tree Species.” All are welcome to this event as well.

All are invited to the 2019 Spring Faculty Lecture on Tuesday, March 5, at 6 p.m. in Hoover 105. 

Nijay K.Gupta’s lecture, “People of Faith: Why the First Christians Called Themselves ‘Believers,'” will focus on why followers of Jesus adopted the label “believers” in reference to their identity, and even referred to their religion as “the faith.” What significance did this pose for them? Was it primarily about “beliefs,” or something more? Gupta will explore these important historical questions and also address the relevance this discussion has for Christian identity today.

Gupta is the recipient of the 2017-18 Faculty Achievement Award for Graduate Research and Scholarship and the Associate Professor of New Testament at Portland Seminary. 

Come early, between 5 and 6 p.m., and check out the work of our Richter Student Scholars and Steinfeldt Peace Scholars at a symposium in the Hoover lobby. Students will present their research and peace projects in a conversational poster format. Refreshments will be served.

Would you like to be better prepared to deal with a natural disaster? Are you ready if and when the “Big One” strikes? Come hear Steven Eberlein, disaster preparedness expert, talk about emergency preparedness at 4 p.m. this Monday, March 4, in Bauman Auditorium. 

Eberlein was living in Sri Lanka in 2004 when a 9.1 subduction zone earthquake off the coast of Indonesia triggered a massive tsunami that took 230,000 lives in more than a dozen countries circling the Indian Ocean. As an aid worker, he was active witnesses to one of the largest multi-national relief efforts in history, starting from its earliest hours. Steven now works full time to educate audiences on the power of earthquakes and what can be done to be prepared for them.
