Survey: Study habits of STEM students

Friday, March 5th, 2021

“Do you have any plans for the weekend?” your friend asks. “Oh, just lots of homework,” you reply, with a laugh. STEM students have a bit of a reputation for always having massive quantities of homework and assignments to complete.

If you are one of those students, please consider taking a couple of minutes to complete this brief (< five-minute) survey regarding your study habits and motivation.

The survey is a part of a project for MATH 240 and will serve to inquire into such questions as: “Do engineers spend more time studying than science majors?”, “How does the desire to attend graduate school affect the motivation of STEM students to maintain a higher GPA?” and  “Is there a direct correlation between hours spent in class and hours required to complete homework for STEM majors?”

Thank you in advance for your participation!

Survey: Self-Reported Political Ideology and Relational Variables

Friday, March 5th, 2021

Please consider taking part in a study that is looking at self-reported political ideology and a variety of different relational variables to identify similarities and differences across the political spectrum.

This survey will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes to complete. After the completion of the survey, some participants may be asked to participate in an additional part of the study in person. This part of the study will consist of telling a narrative about specific pictures presented and take an additional 30 minutes.

Participation can be counted as research credit. Additionally, those who are asked for further involvement after the completion of the survey will receive a $5 Human Bean gift card. Involvement in the study is strictly voluntary, and participation can be withdrawn at any point in time.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact Dalton Young at dyoung18@georgefox.edu.

Reminders on how to use Hadlock’s facilities

Thursday, March 4th, 2021

The Hadlock Student Center is open and expanding capacities! However, there is a new reservation system in place for using all areas of the facility.

Prior to arriving, you must reserve the area that you would like to use using IM Leagues on your computer or smartphone. To use IM Leagues, you must create an account using your George Fox email and select “George Fox University” on the application.

Once you log in, you will be able to choose the area of the facility you want to use and the time which you would like to use it. You are allowed to reserve two 30-minute slots per area, per day. Most people choose to reserve the slots back-to-back so that they have a full 60 minutes for a workout or activity.

Register using IM Leagues here

IM Leagues is the same application that we use for intramural sports, group fitness classes, and other programs. You can use this to reserve and register for all things related to the Hadlock Student Center!

Reminders:

  • Please keep in mind that masks covering the nose and mouth are required at all times in the facility.
  • Employee spouses and dependents are also not allowed at this time, with the exception of intramural sports.
  • All patrons are asked to sanitize their equipment afterwards using gym wipes located on either end of the fitness center.
  • Please give other patrons space in the gym so that everyone is comfortable working out and using the Hadlock Student Center.
  • If you need to cancel a reservation, please do so at least one hour in advance. It is very important to cancel reservations if you cannot attend the session because it may be taking a place away from someone that would otherwise be able to use it.
  • If any patron misses six or more sessions, they will be placed on a seven-day suspension.

Questions? Contact AJ Heil (aheil@georgefox.edu).

Don’t forget to sign up for intramural sports

Thursday, March 4th, 2021

Interested in playing volleyball, pickleball, or badminton? Registration for these leagues closes this Saturday, March 6, at 11:59 p.m.

Make sure to create a team before this deadline. You can add additional players to your roster after the deadline, but you cannot create a team after March 6.

Intramural sports are open to all undergraduate students, graduate students, employees, and employee spouses. Leagues run from Monday, March 8, through Thursday, April 22.

For more details and to register, please click here. Questions? Contact AJ Heil (aheil@georgefox.edu).
