Be mindful of guests when parking for Welcome Weekend

Wednesday, August 25th, 2021

Welcome Weekend is almost here! In order for our hundreds of new students to have a seamless move-in experience, we need extra cooperation from the staff, faculty and students already here on Thursday evening, Aug. 26, and Friday, Aug. 27.

Staff and faculty: Please plan to park along the street, in the front lot of Roberts, the Stevens lot or Hoover lot on Friday.

The Bauman and Le Shana parking lots will be barricaded on Thursday after 5 p.m., so please park nearest to Stoffer Stadium if you need to park in the Bauman lot. Please also refrain from parking in the Pennington lot.

The parking rows adjacent to the service road by Newlin will also be barricaded and unavailable for parking. Please make sure to move any vehicles parked there by 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Questions? Please contact Campus Public Safety at 503-554-2090 and view the parking brochure on the Campus Public Safety website for lot locations.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation to help make move-in day the best day ever for our new students!

If this sounds like something you would like to help with, please email Mindy Mickelson in the athletics department at mmickelson@georgefox.edu with your first and last name, the games you can volunteer, and your T-shirt size.

Please note: We are asking for a three-game commitment to receive a T-shirt. Volunteers working the gates will need to be willing to use their phone to scan in tickets through the HomeTown Gate app (free on app store). Wi-Fi is available at the gates.

Get familiar with new Canvas Learning Management System

Sunday, August 22nd, 2021

You might already be aware that George Fox has moved from the FoxTALE course management system to Canvas. For those of you who are new to Canvas or just want a refresher, here are some resources to help you get familiar with the system:

  • Three- to five-minute videos giving an overview of Canvas and specific components of the platform.
  • The Passport to Canvas site within Canvas provides a deeper dive into the system and is a great way to become “expert” in using Canvas. Each module will probably take 10 to 20 minutes, but it will be well worth the time.
  • Detailed step-by-step guides for functions within Canvas.

Consider having your Canvas page (canvas.georgefox.edu) open in one window and follow the steps in the tutorials to get a good handle on how to navigate Canvas. You may want to consider adding this link in your Chrome bookmarks or Firefox browser.

To access Canvas’s extensive support options, click the Help link at the bottom of the left sidebar of your Canvas site. Options include Live Chat with Canvas Support. You can also contact digitallearning@georgefox.edu or call the IT Service Desk at 503-554-2569.
