For my PsyD dissertation at George Fox, I have created a workshop to prevent and treat burnout in Christian women. There is not currently any published program for burnout specifically for women in ministry, and I am passionate about creating one.
The workshop is free for women to join, and they will receive evidence-based treatment that may otherwise be expensive (approximately a $350 value). The time commitment is one hour weekly over Zoom for six weeks, between May 25 and July 2. The study is open to all women who are part of formal and informal ministries such helping professionals, teachers, medical professionals, caretakers, wives, mothers, social workers, etc.
I am finishing up the first series of this workshop now and have initial evidence that it is effective in reducing symptoms of burnout in Christian women. I am running the workshop again to reach more women and am needing a larger group of participants to meet the research goals of the project.
More information about the study can be found at ministryburnout.com. I also made a short video that introduces the workshop and my heart behind it. Please consider participating or sharing with anyone you think may be interested. I am needing more participants and will be thankful for any help!
Please call me at 971-221-0940 if you have any questions!

George Fox is a Christ-centered university in the tradition of the Evangelical Friends (Quakers). As such, we believe that a diverse community is a gift of God and its flourishing is a theological imperative for the people of God.
We denounce racism and systems of oppression, and proactively work with the Holy Spirit to eradicate those evils from our institution and society. To that end, we offer this prayer for the victims of violence.
As members of our Christ-centered community, we lament the senseless racially and ethnically motivated slayings that took place in Buffalo, New York, on May 14, and Laguna Woods, California, on May 15. Please join us for a special time of prayer today (Tuesday) at 10:30 a.m. in the Barclay House, as we partner with spiritual life pastors to lament the precious lives lost and pray for their families.
An additional opportunity for prayer and reflection will be offered via Zoom tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2 p.m.
If you are interested in resources and support, or ways to become a source of strength for others during this difficult time, please contact Katrina Johnson, dean of student belonging and equity, at katrinaj@georgefox.edu; D’Metri Mattocks, director of intercultural life, at dmattocks@georgefox.edu; or a spiritual life pastor at spirituallife@georgefox.edu.

Most people do not meet the CDC’s recommended minimum weekly aerobic fitness guidelines for maintaining or improving health. A strategy to increase your aerobic fitness is to find activities that are fun while providing a workout.
Zumba is one way to do this. Zumba is a fitness class that consists of different dance moves. If you would like to try this free class, scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, email Jason Brumitt at jbrumitt@georgefox.edu.
The class is part of the College of Physical Therapy’s Health and Wellness Week (May 16-21). Learn about this Zumba class and more on the event website.
Yoga can be a great way to increase strength and improve flexibility. Research has also demonstrated positive improvements in lowering blood pressure.
The College of Physical Therapy will be providing a yoga course as part of its Health and Wellness Week at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, in the Medical Sciences Building (448 N. Werth Blvd., in Newberg). In this class you will perform a variety of yoga exercises and learn how easy it is to do at home.

Performing strength training exercises helps to maintain function and reduce the risk of injury. It is recommended that we strength train at least two days a week. However, only about 20% of people meet this recommendation.
In a free 30-minute course offered through the College of Physical Therapy, you can learn how to strength train at home without owning specific gym equipment. Get all the details here.
Interested? Email Jason Brumitt at jbrumitt@georgefox.edu to participate.

Campus Public Safety will be conducting its annual Bicycle Roundup this Monday, May 9. If you are staying on campus over the summer and plan to keep a bike here, please stop by the Campus Public Safety office to get a sticker ID so that your bike will not be removed.
Bicycle Rules for Summer
At the end of the spring semester, a university-wide bicycle “clean-up” is done. Bicycles that are illegally parked, unregistered or inoperable are impounded. Bicycle racks need to be cleared to do routine maintenance to the racks and surrounding areas.
In order to accommodate the maintenance of the bicycle rack areas, bicycles may not be stored on campus during the summer semester. If you are not going to be on campus using your bicycles during the summer, please remove it. Bicycle claims can be made at the Campus Public Safety/parking services office.
Students using their bikes during the summer must move their bikes to the nearest rack of their summer housing.
Bicycles NOT picked up from the impound lot within 60 days will be forwarded to local charities at the discretion of the Campus Public Safety department. Junk bicycles will be recycled.
If you have questions, contact Karen Toohey at ktoohey@georgefox.edu.
The Hadlock Student Center will be open this summer from May 2 through Aug. 19. Hours will be 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hadlock will be closed Saturdays and Sundays, as well as for Memorial Day and Independence Day.
Students who were enrolled in the spring semester and are continuing at George Fox in the fall have free access to the Hadlock Student Center for the summer. Students who graduated this spring are also eligible to purchase a membership. All other normal access policies apply (click here to find out more).
Please note that the rental center is also open all summer, anytime Hadlock is open. This is a very popular service, so reservations are encouraged to guarantee equipment.
If you have questions about summer hours or other details, please contact AJ Heil at aheil@georgefox.edu.
