‘Wineskin’ submissions are due today

Thursday, February 24th, 2022

The Wineskin is accepting submissions! The theme for this semester is “Commonplace,” so send us your best poems, stories, essays and artwork in that stream of thought; we welcome thematic interpretation.

The editors are open to a wide range of styles and subject matter, but we are particularly looking for work that pushes boundaries and surprises us with its artistic approach and perspective of the world.

All are welcome to submit, including employees and those who are not members of the George Fox community.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Poetry and prose manuscripts must be submitted as a Word document, in Times New Roman, 12-point font. Please title your pieces and remove your name from the document.
  • Limit all prose to 1,000 words and send no more than five poems per submission.
  • For artwork: Files should be named as the title of your piece, followed by your name. Please remove all watermarks from your work.
  • All work should be submitted through our website. Submissions close at midnight tonight (Friday).

Maker Hub’s ‘Tool Tip Friday’: Heat Press

Thursday, February 24th, 2022

In need of an awesome gift idea or new art project? Well, the Maker Hub has got you covered!

Our Stahls Maxx Clam Heat Press is a machine used to transfer graphics onto items like T-shirts, bags, jerseys and more. Materials that can be transferred include heat transfer vinyl (HTV), screen printed transfers, rhinestones and more.

Within the Hub, the heat press works in conjunction with the vinyl printer/cutter as well as the dye sublimation printer. Check out this video to see how it works! For more information on how you can make a custom shirt and more, check out the Maker Hub’s Wiki page.

The Maker Hub exists as a resource and creative outlet for the entire George Fox community (yes, including non-engineers!). We are looking for student aces. A student ace is simply an expert on a piece of equipment who helps train other students on the usage of that equipment and gains extra privileges within the Maker Hub.

Please email makerhub@georgefox.edu if you would like to get connected or have any questions.

Sign up for Interprofessional Primary Care Institute’s ‘Get Cultured’ session

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022

Our interprofessional team is delighted to invite the George Fox community to a virtual presentation: “Get Cultured! Decolonizing and Decentering Whiteness in the Healthcare Workforce.” It is 100% designed, developed and delivered by healthcare professionals who identify with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities.

This event, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 11-12, is for everyone, and if you identify as white, this is a special opportunity to listen and learn. We will learn about ways to decolonize and decenter whiteness in our workforce, dynamic sizing, and other methods to improve our clinical care.

Additionally, this CME will focus on two important clinical topics: persistent pain and chronic disease.

This is a soulful opportunity to hear and deeply reflect on the voices and lived experiences of our BIPOC-identifying colleagues. For more information and to register, go here. It is free to George Fox employees and students.
