Volunteers needed to usher ‘The Hijabis’ performances

Support the arts on campus by volunteering to usher for the University Theatre’s production of The Hijabis by Rohina Malik.

Ushers need to show up one hour before the show opens to help make sure the auditorium is ready to host the event, and then help guide patrons to their seats. In return, all ushers receive a free ticket to the show!

Evening shows are Thursday, March 31, and Fridays, April 1 and 8, at 7:30 p.m.. Matinees are Saturdays and Sundays, April 2-3 and April 9-10, at 2 p.m.

Attend today’s Richter Scholars meeting to learn about research opportunities

Have you thought it would be great to do some type of research? Attend the meeting today (Tuesday) to learn about the Richter Scholars Program and how it can benefit you. We’ll meet at 5 p.m. in Hoover 105.

We encourage faculty and students across all disciplines to attend to learn more about the program and how to apply for this research opportunity. The program is available to both graduate and undergraduate students. The event will be recorded. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Graduating seniors: Swing by Canyon Commons for Exodus Grad Fair March 30-31

All spring graduating seniors are invited to stop by Canyon Commons 102-103 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. this Wednesday and Thursday, March 30-31, to pick up your cap and gown and graduation tickets! Be sure to check your email ahead of time to complete your online Exodus form and tasks as noted here.

If your last name begins with A-L, please come on Wednesday if your schedule allows; last names beginning with M-Z please come on Thursday, if possible.

If you’re not able to make it at all during the grad fair, you can stop by the registrar’s office any time after Exodus through the end of the semester to pick up your regalia and tickets.

The School of Communication and Design invites the university community to a closing reception and curator talk for the show “Art and Artifacts from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Surrounding Countries” tonight (Monday) from 6 to 7 p.m. in Hoover 105.

The exhibition featured a variety of masks, figures, rugs, baskets and more that former U.S. Ambassador Harriet Isom collected during her time serving abroad.

Join student-athlete forum this Thursday in Canyon Commons

Join Bruin student-athletes for an evening of roundtable discussions this Thursday, March 31, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Canyon Commons 101-103. Our hope is that students can have peer-to-peer conversations about topics that are important to the athletics mission.

Come bounce ideas off one another and get to know what each of our programs are doing to achieve athletic excellence, academic success, and Christlike character. Topics will include:

  • What are national championship teams doing differently?
  • How do you intentionally build community outside of athletic activities?
  • How can we tie our worth to Jesus rather than our performance?
  • How can we take what we have learned being student-athletes and apply it into jobs/internships?

Survey: Native American/Indigenous Resilience

We are conducting a PsyD dissertation research project, “Resilience and Cultural Connectiveness within the Native American/Indigenous Population,” and would appreciate your feedback. It will take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete our survey.

We are looking for participants with any Native American/American Indian Indigenous heritage. The purpose of this research is to show how resilience/strength, cultural identity, spiritual identity, and cultural connectiveness are reflected within the Indigenous population.

At the end of the survey is the option to enter a raffle (rewards include three $100 Visa gift cards) as a thank you. We have received IRB approval through George Fox, and as a tribal partnership project we place an emphasis on participant safety and a culturally humble approach to Indigenous research.

Hadlock is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow

The Hadlock Student Center is open tomorrow (Friday) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hadlock is then closed on Saturday and reopens for normal hours of operation starting Sunday, March 27 (2-8 p.m.).

University offices close Friday for spring break holiday

All university offices are closed this Friday, March 25, for the spring break holiday. The Murdock Library on the Newberg campus will be closed, but the 24/7 space will remain open. The Bruin Store on the Newberg campus will also be open.

Theatre’s production of ‘The Hijabis’ opens next week

George Fox University Theatre is pleased to announce that its production of The Hijabis opens Thursday, March 31.

Performances in Wood-Mar Auditorium are scheduled as follows:

  • Thursday-Friday, March 31-April 1, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday, April 2-3, and April 9-10, at 2 p.m.

COVID Precautions
Patrons are encouraged to wear masks. Our ticketing system will automatically place one empty seat on either side of your ticket purchase to create extra space between you and the patrons next to you. We encourage all patrons to be vaccinated to help protect our actors and fellow audience members from COVID-19.

Special Ticket Options for Students, Faculty and Staff
Students may acquire free tickets for our 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31, performance or 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, performance in Wood-Mar Auditorium.

George Fox faculty and staff are entitled to one free ticket for the run of the show. Both options may be selected when you purchase or select your tickets in our online ticketing system. Please use your George Fox email address when ordering.
