Kickoff meeting of the ADHD Support Group is this Thursday

Thursday, September 8th, 2022

As the ADHD Support Group enters its third academic year, we hope to make this the best year to date. We welcome all students who have (or have not) been diagnosed with ADHD by offering a warm environment for us to share our experiences, learn about ourselves, and to find support in each other.

Our kickoff meeting will take place this Thursday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. over Zoom. We will be welcoming back members, greeting new students, and discussing our plans for this semester.

We hope that your experience with our group will help you to not only learn about yourself and your diagnosis, but to also help you access a community where people feel safe and understood. If you have any questions or comments, contact April Garr at DAS (Disabilities & Accessibility Services) or Kyle Rafferty. Hope to see you soon!

Planned power outage set for next week

Thursday, September 8th, 2022

PGE has a power outage planned for Monday, Sept. 12, and Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the evening. Because of the Friendsview construction along Fulton Street, PGE is shutting off power for a few hours each night for buildings and homes serviced in the area while they bring the electrical system online.

Buildings affected could be: Bauman, Brougher, Duke, Fulton Street House, Minthorn, Murdock Library, Nash House, North Street Annex, Ross, Roy Apartments, Stouffer Stadium, and Wheeler.

The planned outages are Monday, Sept. 12, from 5 to 10 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 6 to 10 p.m. If each evening’s work is successful, the power may be restored before 10 p.m. on that night.

Remember that if the power is out in an academic building (e.g. Bauman, Duke, Minthorn, Murdock Library, North Street Annex, Ross, Wheeler, etc.), the building must be evacuated until the power is restored. This is for your safety. Thank you!

The Bruin Community Pantry needs your help

Monday, September 5th, 2022

With the combination of rising food costs, inflation and gas prices, food banks are facing significant challenges in getting government-subsidized food. In addition, Yamhill Community Partnership’s (our connection to the Oregon Food Bank) freezer broke, and, due to supply chain issues, it won’t be repaired for several weeks.

This has greatly impacted the Bruin Community Pantry food bank’s ability to provide frozen meat to our clients. Last month we began to purchase ground meat – the easiest meat for our students to prepare – from Grocery Outlet to offset this situation. However, our budget is unable to sustain this for long.

We are reaching out to the George Fox community to let you know about this situation, and invite you to participate in financially supporting this effort or to purchase ground meat and donate it to the Bruin Community Pantry.

If you would like to become a financial partner with the BCP, please contact advancement at giving@georgefox.edu or 503-554-2110 for details on how to either give monthly or make a one-time gift.

If you would like to donate frozen ground meat to the food bank, please contact Jere Witherspoon to arrange a drop-off at the food bank in Roberts 110. You can call or email Jere at jwithers@georgefox.edu or call her at 503-554-2316.

Thank you for considering this opportunity.
