Keep these things in mind during Bruin Preview

Wednesday, October 26th, 2022

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will be hosting Bruin Preview on campus Friday, Oct. 28. With around 500 visitors expected on campus, we are asking GFU students and employees to help extend the Be Known promise throughout the day. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Use street parking instead of campus parking lots. Guests will be arriving on campus Friday between 8 and 8:30 a.m. and will fill all the main campus parking lots.
  • Be mindful of guests in your housing area. We will have housing tours circulating through Edwards, Gulley, Pennington and HMS from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tour groups will be viewing dorm lobbies and a room in each dorm.
  • Plan for a busier-than-usual lunch in Canyon Commons. Guests will be going through the main server lines and will eat in the main dining area. If you see a family looking for a spot to sit, invite them to join you.
  • Sixty prospective students have opted to stay overnight on Thursday night before the main event. Be welcoming to prospective students in your on-campus living areas starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

If you have any questions, email visit@georgefox.edu or call Lauren Hill at 503-554-2245.

For our marketing class, we have created an app called Roam Anywhere, which is a GPS app that lets you know what activities are taking place around you when you drive.

Here is our survey. It would be greatly appreciated if we could have three minutes of your time to fill this out. By completing this survey, you will give us a better understanding of what people want in their GPS apps.

If you have any questions, contact Cassey Hitch at chitch21@georgefox.edu.

Disclaimer: These surveys are student generated and are not to be associated with any official research conducted by faculty and staff at George Fox University. Any views or opinions presented in these surveys are solely those of the students and do not represent those of George Fox University. Author Curtis Chang speaks on campus tomorrow

Tuesday, October 25th, 2022

The Cultural Enterprise invites you to hear from author and guest speaker Curtis Chang tomorrow (Thursday). We’ll host a faculty coffee at 3 p.m. (during which he’ll discuss his recently published work on the theology of organizations) and a 7 p.m. public lecture on post-partisan faith.

Both events are in Canyon Commons, and refreshments will be served.

Faculty Coffee

Chang makes the provocative claim that human institutions participate in the Imago Dei. He argues that this insight is deeply grounded in Scripture and theology. Moreover, this central insight opens up a range of practical insights and motivations for the organizational life of all Christians, especially those working in “secular” entities.

Come hear Chang share about a robust theology of institutions, and bring your questions and thoughts!

Public Lecture: “When Politics Strains Relationships”

Have political divisions caused tension in the relationships in your family, school, church, work or community? Learn how to become a “post-partisan Christian” and how this new identity can heal our relationships – and hopefully our society. A livestream will be available here.

About Curtis Chang

Chang straddles the worlds of secular institutions and theology. As a management consultant, he has won a White House award for social innovation as the founder and head of Consulting Within Reach (CWR), a firm serving nonprofits and government agencies. He also is on the faculty of American University in Washington, D.C., where he teaches strategic planning.

As a theologian, Chang is a consulting professor at the Duke Divinity School and is a senior fellow at Fuller Theological Seminary. He currently co-hosts (with David French) the Good Faith podcast, which is ranked in the top 1% of all podcasts.

Contact Sarah Taylor at taylors@georgefox.edu for more information about his visit.

All submittals will be electronic and are due Wednesday, Nov. 23. For more information, contact Vetta Berokoff at vberokof@georgefox.edu.

The Zed Factor Fellowship invites you to apply for aerospace internships

Monday, October 24th, 2022

The Zed Factor Fellowship invites all students who are interested in aerospace to apply for its 2023 fellowship program.

The Zed Factor Fellowship is an aerospace internship and community outreach program for undergraduate students hailing from historically excluded communities and backgrounds.

Students selected for the program will receive a 10-week paid summer or fall fellowship. The program encourages students in all majors, including STEM, business/marketing, communications/journalism, policy/pre-law, humanities, and social sciences to apply.

Founded by a group of aerospace professionals from diverse backgrounds, the Zed Factor Fellowship empowers and engages learners and aspiring space and aviation professionals through hands-on, practical experiences working in and contributing to the leading companies of the aerospace community.

In addition to the internship placement, students will receive mentorship from an executive and young professional in their field, and carry out a funded space- or aviation-related community engagement project.

Applications are being accepted for placement with leading space and aviation companies for internships beginning in late spring/early summer 2023. The application deadline is Monday, Jan. 2.

Additionally, we are hosting an information session Wednesday, Nov. 2, for students to learn more about the fellowship and how to apply. Fill out this form to register for the session.

Questions can be directed to info@zedfactorfellowship.org.
