Learn the basics of sabre fencing in Hadlock this evening

Hadlock weight room closed from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today

The Hadlock Student Center weight room will be closed today (Friday) between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for the delivery and installation of the new multi-station cable machine. All other areas within Hadlock will remain open with regular hours (6 a.m. to 11 p.m.).

Ping Pong Club is starting up again this semester

Happy New Year, George Fox! Ping Pong Club is starting up again this semester, and all staff and students are invited to come play and have fun.

Every week, the Ping Pong Club sets up some tables in the Hadlock Student Center gym. We provide the paddles and balls, but you are also welcome to bring your own. Similar to Ultimate Frisbee, there are no costs or obligations to participate. All skill levels are welcome.

Welcome prospective students today for the first Friday @ Fox

Today (Jan. 13) marks the beginning of Friday @ Fox for the spring semester.

Prospective students will participate in a campus tour, visit classes, eat lunch on campus, and tour academic departments of interest. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is asking students and employees to help make visitors feel the Be Known promise during their time on campus today.

A few things to note:

  • Please plan to park in areas outside of the Stevens lot if possible to ensure enough spaces for visitors.
  • There will be tours rotating through campus and residence areas at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m.
  • Consider offering a helping hand if visitors need directions or have questions about George Fox.

Help basketball teams welcome local youth Jan. 28

George Fox University is hosting a Local School Night out and offering local youth (K-8) free admission to our basketball games on Saturday, Jan. 28.

The women’s team tips off against Linfield at 4 p.m., followed by the men at 6 p.m.

Join us for fun activities such as sign making, Pennington and Mac the Wildcat dance offs, photos with the giant Pennington parade balloon and more!

Join Wilderness First Aid course

University Recreation is hosting a Wilderness First Aid course from Saturday, March 4, to Sunday, March 5, at the Hadlock Student Center! This course is open to students, employees and the public.

Wilderness First Aid is a two-day introduction to general medical concepts and basic life support skills. It is specifically geared toward people that enjoy spending time outside, so that they can be better prepared to respond to situations that may occur when adventuring, playing or working in the outdoors. The course is taught by Mark Whitaker, a professional instructor with significant patient care and backcountry experience.

University Recreation has published the entire semester of outdoor adventure trips and activities!

Everything is now open for registration, including a FREE snowshoeing trip this weekend (Jan. 14) provided by Winter Welcome.

Join us for other awesome experiences like cross country skiing, hiking on the coast, backpacking, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, kayaking, paddle boarding, snowshoeing, downhill skiing, camping, caving, photography and more!

Celebrate MLK Day with the Yamhill County community this Monday

All are invited to attend the 13th annual Yamhill County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, Jan. 16, in the Chehalem Cultural Center Ballroom (415 E. Sheridan St.).

The program will celebrate the work of Dr. King, centered around his Nobel Prize acceptance speech. It will feature local speakers, spoken word and reflection. The event is free, and no registration is required.

Program Schedule:

  • 5:30 p.m. – Doors open: free food provided by G&W Smoked Caribbean Barbecue
  • 5:45 p.m. – Multimedia presentation
  • 6 p.m. – The formal event begins: an interactive program featuring videos, stories/spoken word, reflection, and discussion. Spanish and ASL interpreting provided.

Presenters include George Fox’s very own Whitney Waddell, Maliah Aldan, Marake Wondwossen, Black Student Union students, and For Us, By Us Newberg students!

Join the Master Chorus at rehearsals starting tonight

Please join the university’s Master Chorus in a performance of sacred works for chorus, brass, and organ featuring Gloria by John Rutter. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. in Ross 208 and begin tonight (Tuesday).

Join spiritual life office for a day of service on MLK Day

On the first day of our “Think Outside the Fox” Week emphasis on serving with passion (Jan. 16-20), the spiritual life office would like to invite students and employees to join together for a day of learning and service alongside Doing Good Things! and SOLVE in Portland.

The event is set for MLK Day on Monday, Jan. 16. Please complete this form to register. The day plan will be as follows:

  • 9 a.m.: Continental breakfast and departure from SpiL House
  • 9:45 a.m.: Meet at Irving Park in Portland for service and learning orientation
  • 10 a.m.: Join SOLVE for MLK Day service project
  • Noon: Lunch and discussion on houselessness and litter/garbage service
  • 1-2 p.m.: “Walkabout” (prayer walk, distributing hot cocoa and socks, practicing presence and humanity with our unhoused neighbors)
  • 2 p.m.: Debrief and drive back
  • 3 p.m.: Arrive back at SpiL/Newberg campus

Undergraduate students who participate will be eligible for five SpiL/chapel elective attendance credits.

Make note of Center Street closure Jan. 10-12

Starting tomorrow (Tuesday) through Thursday, Jan. 12, the city of Newberg will be closing Center Street from Vermillion Street to Fulton Street to repair the septic connection between Fulton Street House and the city main line. Please do not park in that area during these three days.
