Donate cold-weather items for the homeless by Nov. 26

On Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the FoxHole, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., the Social Work Club will be creating cold-weather kits for those experiencing homelessness!

We would greatly appreciate any donations, including socks, gloves, hats, Chapstick, toothbrushes, toothpaste, aspirin, oatmeal packets, instant soup, snacks, and Ziplock bags. Please bring all donations to the social work house (Meridian Street House) no later than Monday, Nov. 26.

Be aware of Thanksgiving closures for Bruin Den, Bruin Bites and Bridge Cafe

The Bruin Den, Bruin Bites and Bridge Cafe will be closing at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, and all cafes will be closed through the weekend, reopening on Monday, Nov. 26, with regular hours of operation.

The Nutrition Matters grant at George Fox is sponsoring upcoming cooking demonstrations. If you would like to learn how to make a healthy meal, join us in Canyon Commons tonight (Monday) from 7 to 8 p.m. to learn how to make healthy holiday food!

Emily Forbes, a George Fox alumna and local nutritionist, is passionate about helping students learn to make healthy meals. You will walk away with knowledge on how to make a dish, a sample, and the recipe! It’s like watching a cooking show, but you actually get to taste the food! Join us! Both students and employees are welcome.

Do you have hip, knee or ankle pain? Physical therapy looking for volunteers

The Graduate School of Physical Therapy is looking for volunteers to participate in a lab session on the lower extremity. If you have a problem with your hip, knee, ankle or foot, our lab is the place to be!

Our doctor of physical therapy second-year students, along with faculty members, will be performing examinations and giving you direction on how to take care of your condition. Volunteers are needed for either a one- or two-hour session beginning at 12:30 p.m. and ending at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Roberts Center.

Claim your lost items before Thanksgiving

Please come to the Campus Public Safety office to look for your lost items BEFORE leaving for Thanksgiving break on Wednesday, Nov. 21, as all unclaimed items will be donated to charitable causes at 3 p.m. on Nov. 21.

Please take your bikes home over Thanksgiving break

Although the weather is great now, it is supposed to begin raining over Thanksgiving break. If you aren’t riding your bike much, please take it home over Thanksgiving and bring it back during spring break when the weather improves.

If you decide to keep it on campus, put it in your dorm room or apartment over breaks to avoid potential theft, and always keep it locked, preferably with a U-lock!

Got stress, aches and pains, or do you just want to feel relaxed? We want to help! Come by Roberts 204 Wednesday, Nov. 28, between 3 and 6 p.m. to get a 30-minute massage performed by a doctor of physical therapy student and receive free stress management advice!

Our mission is to improve our community’s health by offering discounted massages to students ($15) and employees ($20). All proceeds will be donated to help fund our medical service trip to Uganda and Ghana. Donations are also welcome!

Now is a great time to get your flu shot! The School of Nursing and the Health and Counseling Center will be teaming up to hold a flu shot clinic today (Thursday) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Roberts Center’s Room 117.

For students with the PacificSource school health insurance plan, the flu shot is free. For all others, the shot is $20. Cash or check accepted.

Listen to guest physical therapy doctor speak on exercise and chronic disease

The School of Physical Therapy is excited to host Dr. Kim E. Eppen, physical therapist and clinical specialist at the University of Iowa, tonight (Thursday) in Canyon Commons 101 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Dr. Eppen will present the topic “Exercise Prescription in Chronic Disease.” The primary objectives for this lecture are to identify the relationship between inactivity and chronic disease, discuss physical activity guidelines for “general health benefits,” and discuss the role of physicians and other healthcare providers in assessing and prescribing physical activity/exercise for prevention and/or management of chronic disease.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this free event. Light refreshments will be served.
