Parking waiver form information

Monday, June 24th, 2019

Starting July 1, 2019, George Fox students who do not plan to bring a vehicle to campus can request an exemption from being automatically charged the parking permit fee by completing this parking waiver form. Please read the waiver form thoroughly as you fill it out.

By signing this form you agree that you will not bring a vehicle and park on George Fox’s Newberg campus or the surrounding Good Neighbor areas (as specified in the parking policies) between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

If your vehicle is found parked on campus during these times, the following will occur:

  • You will be automatically issued and charged for a parking permit and be fined an additional $75 for parking an unregistered vehicle.
  • You will be required to pick up the permit from Campus Public Safety and an officer will assist you in the proper placement of the permit.
  • Note: There may be additional fines for any other violations according to the parking policies of the university.

If you are doing an off-campus internship (clinical, student teaching, etc.) which limits your time on campus to less than two hours during normal business hours, or are taking 4 or fewer credit hours in a semester, you may be eligible for this waiver. However, you must obtain a special temporary permit from Campus Public Safety and display it appropriately to avoid the above-listed sanctions.

How to register a formal student complaint

Monday, June 24th, 2019

While most student concerns and complaints can and should be resolved informally, there is a formal general complaint procedure described in the “Support for Students” section of the Undergraduate Student Handbook as well as on the Graduate/DPS Policies page of the website.

Note that these procedures cover complaints of a general nature and do not supersede specific policies involving special cases such as grade appeals, sexual harassment, etc., which are covered elsewhere in the Student Handbook, catalog or Graduate/DPS Policies.

For more information, contact the student life department (studentlife@georgefox.edu).

Important info about vehicle registration

Wednesday, June 19th, 2019

Students: Following are the dates when the vehicle registration portal will open:

  • July 1: All commuters and graduate students only
  • July 8: Seniors
  • July 15: Juniors
  • July 22: Sophomores

For incoming freshmen and transfer students, the application for a parking permit will open up on July 1 on the Campus Public Safety website. Approved residential applicants will then be given instructions on how to register for a permit.

Commuters and graduate students may register only one vehicle on MyGFU, and if they have a second family-owned vehicle they switch in-between, that vehicle must be registered in the Campus Public Safety office. This option is only for a second family-owned vehicle, not a roommate’s, girlfriend’s or boyfriend’s vehicle, etc.

Commuter and graduate parking permits are not limited, but residential permits are. Please register when the registration portal opens up for your class so as to not miss out on a permit.

Questions that aren’t answered on our website? Out-of-the-box vehicle situation? Call 503-554-2090 during business hours, or write Elrike Shaw at eshaw@georgefox.edu.

Employees: Be sure to pass this information along to students you know.

Campus Public Safety offers water safety tips

Tuesday, June 11th, 2019

Is it hot enough yet? If the river is your choice of cool-down today and tomorrow, please be aware of these important safety tips before just plunging in!

  • Most Oregon rivers are still cold! The Deschutes and the Sandy rivers are still in the 50s, and the Willamette is in the mid-60s. That cold water can shock your system and cause you to gasp involuntarily and to take in water and drown!
  • Wear a life jacket. Always.
  • Don’t leave children unattended around any body of water, even for a second.
  • Learn CPR and never swim alone (Campus Public Safety offers CPR/first aid/AED classes; call us at 503-554-2090 for details).
  • Never dive into unknown water unless you know the depth and that there aren’t submerged logs, strong currents or other hazards.
  • All boats, no matter the size, need one wearable PFD (personal flotation device) for each person on board. Anyone under 12 must wear it at all times.

If trouble arises, attempting to rescue a swimmer in danger is very dangerous and can lead to multiple drownings. Trained rescuers teach and use a protocol called “Talk, Reach, Throw, Row.”

TALK. Call 911, then talk to the person and see if you can coach them to swim to you on shore or to a boat.

REACH. Next, try to reach them by extending a branch, pole or inflatable boat. Do NOT allow them to grab hold of your body; they may try to pull you in.

THROW. You can throw a distressed person a life jacket, life ring, rope or any other object that will help them stay afloat.

ROW. If necessary, use a boat to get to the person.

Thanks to Wilsonville Police Chief Rob Wurpes for these valuable tips!
