Be aware of protocol regarding service dogs on campus

Sunday, September 13th, 2020

September is National Service Dog Month. Service dogs serve important roles in the lives of their handlers, and their roles may differ from person to person.

There are a number of service dogs on the George Fox campuses, as well as in the broader community. Remember that handlers are people first and should be the first ones to be approached. Service dogs are often working and should never be touched or distracted without asking the handler’s permission.

Depending on the emotional, physical, and therapeutic needs of the handler, service dogs fulfill many roles, from helping visually impaired individuals with navigation to assisting individuals during seizures. Learn more about the different ways in which service dogs assist their handlers.

Questions about Lost and Found?

Wednesday, September 9th, 2020

Important information about lost and found items:

  • Found items should promptly be taken to the Campus Public Safety office, where they are tagged and logged with a date and location if known
  • We then check our master list of reported lost items to try to match an owner with an item
  • Owners are emailed or called if we can identify a match
  • For faster retrieval of your lost items, please write your name on your belongings

Come in to the security office to report your lost items as soon as you lose them, and please pick them up quickly when you’re notified that they have been found because we have limited storage space.

We donate unclaimed items every four to six weeks to charitable causes.

Questions? Contact Elrike Shaw at eshaw@georgefox.edu or call our office at 503-554-2090.

Come see the work of Tim Timmerman in the Ross Center

Wednesday, September 9th, 2020

Everyone on campus is invited to visit a free art exhibition featuring the work of Tim Timmerman, a professor of art and design here at George Fox.

The exhibit, “Allegory of Love,” remains up through Oct. 21 in the Lindgren Gallery in the Ross Center. The gallery will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This exhibition features the paintings and assemblage work of Timmerman, who was moved by Paolo Veronese’s paintings, “Allegories of Love,” when traveling in Italy on Juniors Abroad.

Timmerman’s “Allegory of Love” contemplates how God can move and show up in our lives, and how encountering the divine is something we are invited into every day. In these pieces, Timmerman draws from both Old Testament narratives as well as stories from his own life.

For more information, contact Sarah Cuevas, exhibitions and collections assistant, at scuevas15@georgefox.edu.

Join campus-wide prayer effort for surrounding community tomorrow

Monday, September 7th, 2020

As we continue week three of the academic year – the week when George Fox University typically holds our annual Serve Day – we invite you to participate in a campus-wide prayer effort on behalf of our surrounding community.

In lieu of our tangible expressions of service, this year we would love for you to pray specifically for one of the community organizations that we serve on Serve Day each year. This can include, but is not limited to, praying for their work, staff, and the populations they serve.

Please plan to offer prayers throughout the day tomorrow (Wednesday) as the Holy Spirit directs you.

If you would like us to match you with a partner site, please email us at spirituallife@georgefox.edu. Make sure to be on the lookout for more virtual service opportunities from the Office for Spiritual Life in the near future!
