RSVP for ‘Poverty, Inc.’ screening

On Monday, Nov. 25, the American Enterprise Institute will be hosting a showing of Poverty Inc., followed by a brief discussion of the film’s inquiry into the nature of human flourishing.

Swing by Wheeler tonight for student-athletes’ fundraiser

Stop by the Wheeler Sports Center between 5 and 9:30 p.m. tonight (Friday) to browse through a selection of old uniforms, practice gear, used equipment, and random hats and apparel that are up for purchase from the athletic department.

Each year, student-athletes host a “12 Days of Christmas” event to raise money to adopt three to five local families that they purchase gifts for on the 12 days leading up to Christmas. All proceeds from this sale are used for this event. Please come help bless local families this Christmas!

Bruin Community Pantry closed for Thanksgiving

The Bruin Community Pantry food bank will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 27, for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The last day the food bank will be open next week is Monday, Nov. 25.

Information about staying safe on campus

Campus Public Safety would like to remind you of these safety tips to help keep you safe on and off campus.

  • After dark, it is recommended to walk with a trusted companion.
  • If you feel threatened, call 503-554-2090.
  • Stay in well-lit areas and avoid alleys, dark corners and bushes whenever possible and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Carry a whistle and use it if you feel threatened.
  • Carry a fully charged cell phone.
  • Close exterior doors behind you as you enter your hall.
  • Do not allow anyone to enter who is not accompanied by another resident.
  • Escort your visitors to the exterior door when they leave.
  • Do not prop exterior doors and close those that you find open.
  • If you live on the ground floor, keep your windows locked.
  • Be sure to lock your room door if you will be away, even for a minute.
  • Share information about suspicious activities with Campus Public Safety.

Survey: Human-AI culture

A doctor of ministry student is conducting a research survey on a potentially mixed culture between humans and humanoid-AI robots (human-AI culture).

This survey is fun to join because there is no right or wrong answer and it only takes two minutes to fill out. Your imagination will not only be helpful for this research, but will also take you on an adventure into the new world of humanity blended with AI technology and cyborgs in the next few decades.

Come to panel on philosophy of the body and pro-life issues

Join the Students for Life Club for a panel discussion on the Christian philosophy of the body and its implications for pro-life issues tonight (Thursday) from 7 to 8 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Two George Fox professors, Abigail Favale and Marcia Bogert, and Sean Flannery, pastor at Church of the Vine, will be the panelists. The discussion will focus on questions such as, “Should we as Christians consider the body as inherently valuable? If so, what does this mean for the morality of abortion?”

Bon Appetit serving Thanksgiving dinner tonight

Bon Appetit is serving up a delicious Thanksgiving dinner tonight (Wednesday) in Canyon Commons. Join us between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. for turkey, ham, traditional sides, desserts, and hot spiced cider.

The meal is free for students on the meal plan. For others, the cash price at the door is $11.05 for adults, $9.05 for children ages 3 to 9, and free for children 2 and under.

We’ll also be enjoying the George Fox Jazz Band performing between 5:30 and 7 p.m. See you there!

Join the Catholic Campus Fellowship this Friday, Nov. 22, for a talk titled “From Fox to the Priesthood” at 5 p.m. in Hoover 210.

Speaking will be Stephen Kenyon, a 2013 George Fox alumnus, who will share about his journey to Catholicism and to the priesthood. A Q&A time will follow the presentation, and all who are interested in attending Catholic worship are invited to stay afterward for Mass.

Donate to Team Emery stuffed animal drive

Purchase a new stuffed animal to donate to Team Emery and bring joy to a sick child! Drop your donation in the Team Emery donation box in the Hoover lobby by the College of Business between now and Friday, Dec 6.

Team Emery is a nonprofit organization that provides hope and encouragement to sick children through the gift of a teddy bear or stuffed animal. Last year, Team Emery donated 371 teddy bears to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Randall Children’s Hospital, two Ronald McDonald House locations, and the Newberg fire and police departments.
