Get familiar with new Canvas Learning Management System

Monday, August 16th, 2021

You might already be aware that George Fox has moved from the FoxTALE course management system to Canvas. For those of you who are new to Canvas or just want a refresher, here are some resources to help you get familiar with the system:

  • 3-5 minute videos giving an overview of Canvas and specific components of the platform.
  • The Passport to Canvas site within Canvas provides a deeper dive into the system and is a great way to become “expert” in using Canvas. Each module will probably take 10-20 minutes, but it will be well worth the time.
  • Detailed step-by-step guides for functions within Canvas.

Consider having your Canvas page (canvas.georgefox.edu) open in one window and follow the steps in the tutorials to get a good handle on how to navigate Canvas. You may want to consider adding this link in your Chrome bookmarks or Firefox browser.

To access Canvas’s extensive support options, click the Help link at the bottom of the left sidebar of your Canvas site. Options include Live Chat with Canvas Support. You can also contact digitallearning@georgefox.edu or call the IT Service Desk at 503-554-2569.

Sunday, August 15th, 2021

The Hadlock Student Center will be closed Aug. 19, 20 and 26 for staff training and staff recreation, in order to get ready for a very busy year. We recommend alternative forms of exercise or trying new activities during this time as a way to “spice up” your routine!

The rental center will also be closed, but equipment can be rented and checked out on the days prior, and patrons will not be charged for the additional days as a result of our closures. To make reservations, please go here.

If you have questions, please email AJ Heil at aheil@georgefox.edu.

Group connection and facilitation opportunity

Are you a returning student or an employee who has a chronic illness/medical condition, has celiac disease/gluten intolerance, or is on the autism spectrum? Disability & Accessibility Services is looking for leaders/facilitators for these three different affinity groups on the Newberg campus.

The goal is to provide a safe space for students with these conditions, diagnoses, and/or restrictions to connect with other students with similar experiences in order to reduce feelings of isolation and build community.

If this is something you’re interested in or would just like more information, contact Andrea Byerley (abyerley@georgefox.edu) in Disability & Accessibility Services.
