Spring drama ‘The Broken’ opens on Wood-Mar stage next week

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

George Fox theatre’s spring show opens next week! Come see the premiere of The Broken, a play written by director Rhett Luedtke and various GFU students.

The process of creating and writing The Broken began in October with a group of nine students under Rhett’s direction. They started with the image of a fortified, barbed-wire fence in a foreign country with a middle-aged Bible translator standing on one side of the fence with a machete in his hand and, on the other side, a native of the country also wielding a machete.

Based on some true stories of missions work in Papua New Guinea, the show has come full circle after more than 400 hours of work and will culminate in a world premiere that includes 30-plus students as actors, designers, consultants, stage managers and tech crew members under Rhett’s direction.

Play Synopsis: The Broken follows the intersecting stories of four individuals in Papua New Guinea as they navigate the sometimes conflicting beliefs and ideals of the Western and native cultures in the country.

Come for a time of thought-provoking theatre and explore questions of modern ideology in third-world culture.

Show Dates: The show runs April 12-14 and April 19-21 at 7:30 p.m. and April 22 at 2 p.m. in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased online at theatre.georgefox.edu or by calling 503-554-3844. University employees each get one complimentary ticket for the performance of their choice, and George Fox students each get one complimentary ticket for either of the Thursday night performances. Comp tickets can be picked up at the box office.

Note: The box office is now located on the first floor of the Stevens Center at the information desk. Box office hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Online tickets can be purchased at any time.
