Student-run Thanksgiving event gives students a place to go for holiday

Friday, November 16th, 2012

Students: If you are unable to make it home for Thanksgiving, then we have an event for you. A student-run Thanksgiving will be taking place on Thursday, Nov. 22. You can come and stay for as long as you desire.

Help cook all day or just come for the meal and night festivities. No need to bring anything, just yourself. You are more than welcome to bring food or something else (a board game, maybe), but only if you feel inclined to do so. Seriously, you can come and just eat, hang out, and enjoy the festive company of others.

It will be held right across the street from Lemmons at 603 N. Meridian St. (big white house on the corner).

Invite any and all students! I do not anyone to have Thanksgiving by themselves! Have it in warm and friendly company. Make new friends! I would like the Bon to be empty on Thanksgiving night.

Possible activities:

  • Swing dancing
  • Watch a movie
  • Cooking
  • Crafts
  • Eating
  • Games
  • More eating
  • Getting to know others
  • Chilling out/digesting
  • Talk story
  • Whatever else we can imagine!

My hope and dream is to create a friendly environment where students can feel like they are at home for Thanksgiving. Though I know that may not be possible, I want to get close.

Please contact me if interested.

Update your vehicle information

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

Staff and faculty: If you can’t remember the last time you updated your vehicle registration(s), now would be a great time to pop onto MyGFU to see what is listed, and make any needed additions/deletions.

Here are the steps:

  • Log on to MyGFU and select “Self Service” in the shaded box in the upper left corner.
  • Next, click on “University Forms.” The “Newberg Vehicle Registration” link should pop up in the center of the page, and after clicking on it, you can review your vehicle registration.
  • If you no longer possess a vehicle listed there, just click on the “minus” sign to the right of the listing and it will disappear.
  • To add additional vehicles, just click on the “Add Additional Vehicle” box and input your vehicle’s information.
  • Lastly, e-mail Nadine Kincaid (nkincaid@georgefox.edu) to let us know you’ve made changes.

Is your hang tag in a state of disrepair? Just bring in the shards to Security Services and we can re-issue a new permit hang tag on the spot. Can’t find your hang tag? Bring $5 to security for a new one. E-mail us prior to coming and we can have it waiting for you.

Tired of trying to remember to switch your hang tag from car to car? Additional permits are available for $5 each to help eliminate that stress in your life! Feel free to call ext. 2090 if you have any questions not addressed here, and we’d be happy to help!

Student selling truffles as fundraiser for Africa trip to assist missionaries

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

Do you love truffles? Are you interested in helping out a missionary family in Uganda this Christmas? If so, please consider purchasing some truffles (gluten free!) to help me make the trip to Africa!

These will hold up for Christmas and most definitely would be an excellent gift and/or party treat. They are $10 a dozen and varieties include almond, cherry, coconut, coffee bean, peppermint (my personal fav!) and “traditional” (dark chocolate).

I can deliver these to you if you are in the Newberg area, or I can mail them! And they hold up well. I have even mailed them to Wyoming to a friend who freezed them and saved them for months. They even made it to some soldiers in Afghanistan. If I have to mail them to you, I will have to add the cost of postage, so just tack on $10, please.

If interested or if you have questions, feel free to e-mail me at eheidy09@georgefox.edu or call me at 503-901-1062.

Thank you,
Elise Heidy
