Career coach speaks at next Christian Chamber meeting May 28

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

Most people are in their chosen careers not just for the short run; they want to finish well.

But what does that mean? According to Portland certified coach Cal Habig, studies of hundreds of leaders have identified six characteristics of leaders who finish well, as well as six barriers to finishing well. Habig will share these insights as the featured speaker Tuesday, May 28, at the monthly Newberg meeting of the Christian Chamber of Commerce of the Northwest.

The meeting is from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Cap & Gown Room (please note change in usual location).

In his coaching work, Habig helps leaders of ministries and other values-based organizations take their organizations to places of great success while working to keep the leader in a life of balance. After having served as a minister for 30 years, Habig moved into online education in 2008 and professional coaching in 2009.

Groundbreaking ceremony for new stadium is this afternoon

Sunday, May 19th, 2013

Don’t forget to join us for the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Stoffer Family Stadium this afternoon (Monday) at 4 p.m.

The stadium will serve as future home of the university’s revived football program – set to kick off in 2014 after a 45-year hiatus – and the track and field team. It will be built on campus where the current track facility is located.

The groundbreaking ceremony will include a ceremonial groundbreaking, a time to honor the donors who helped make the project possible, and details on how the stadium will impact not only the university’s football and track and field programs, but athletics for the entire George Fox community.

To date, more than $5.3 million of the $7.2 million project has been raised. Crews began work on the complex – which will include the synthetic-turf Lemmons Family Field, grandstand facilities and the Duke Athletic Center (home to a training facility, a locker room, offices and classrooms) – this spring, with construction due to be completed in time for football’s kickoff in September of 2014.

To R.S.V.P. for the groundbreaking ceremony, e-mail Jan Lefebvre at jlefebvre@georgefox.edu.

Clarification for purchasing with 2013-14 budget

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

Earlier this week there was an e-nnouncement explaining how to create a PO using your 2013-14 budget but, just to make sure there is no misunderstanding, I want to clarify a couple of important pieces of information about using your FY14 budget.

  • No receiving can be done until after July 1 for any PO using 2013-14 budget
  • No invoices can be dated before July 1 for any PO using 2013-14 budget

Failure to comply will cause charges to be applied to this year’s budget. If you have any questions, please contact Andy Dunn at adunn@georgefox.edu.

Serve Day information needed

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

Planning Serve Day is a significant and extremely rewarding commitment on the part of our entire university community. We need your help to make Serve Day 2013 a great success.

Serve Day will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and it is our collective efforts that make this BIG day possible. Consider what your role will be for Serve Day this year!

Please respond to the following A.S.A.P.

We are in need of 20 committee members. If you are interested in being a part of the Serve Day Committee, please fill out the Serve Day 2013 Committee Interest Survey. This will involve a few summer meetings, some outside committee work, and assisting on campus during Serve Day.

All employees: Please fill out the following survey: Serve Day 2013 All Employee Survey

This survey includes any special requests regarding sites, or physical limitations as well as transportation and team leader information. This is an essential piece to making Serve Day a success and will only take a moment of your time. If you have any requests, now is the time to make them.

Remember! Participation in Serve Day is required for all Newberg employees. Requests to be excused from Serve Day must be submitted to the vice president or provost over your area. They will send a master list to us so that we know how to plan for the size and makeup of each team.

Thanks so much for your continued support for Serve Day as an expression of Christ’s love to our community. We look forward with great anticipation to what God will do in and through all of us!

If you have any questions, feel free to email us at serveday@georgefox.edu.

His peace to you,

Rachel Elmer & Beth Muthiah
Serve Day Coordinators
