Encourage students to attend pre-professional health info meeting Oct. 30

Sunday, October 27th, 2013

Know students interested in attending a professional health program after George Fox? Are they pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-veterinary, pre-physical therapy, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, etc.? If so, encourage them to attend a pre-professional information meeting Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 5:30 p.m. in EHS 125.

The topics covered at the meeting will include admission requirements, the application process, and resources available to students at George Fox. This meeting is an annual event, so they may not need to attend if they’ve done so before. New interested students should plan on it!

Students can contact Jane Sweet at jsweet@georgefox.edu or John Schmitt at jschmitt@georgefox.edu if they have questions. If they are not able to attend, but consider themselves a pre-professional health student, they should contact Jane so that they are added to the pre-professional health student contact group.

Don’t miss out on play ‘The House of Bernarda Alba’

Sunday, October 27th, 2013

Did you miss our play The House of Bernarda Alba last week? Well, you still have a chance to see it! The show runs again in Wood-Mar Auditorium Thursday, Oct. 31, through Sunday, Nov. 3, with all shows scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with the exception of the 2 p.m. Sunday matinee. Don’t miss out on this beautiful show!

Synopsis: Immediately following her husband’s death, Bernarda Alba orders her five daughters to observe an eight-year mourning period in which none of them will leave the house. The young women do their best to obey their mother, but when the handsome Pepe el Romano arrives on the scene the young womens’ desire to honor their mother’s tradition is set against their yearning for freedom.

Originally written as a critique of the rise of fascism in 1936, The House of Bernarda Alba addresses themes of sexual repression, fear of change, and serves as a powerful metaphor for those who yearn for freedom from confining ideals.

The play is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.

Employees are entitled to one complimentary ticket each. Additional tickets are available for purchase at this site, by calling the Box Office at 503-554-3844, or by going over to Pennington House.

FoxTALE Version 2.4 Issue

Thursday, October 24th, 2013

We have discovered a grade book issue in FoxTALE over the last few days. It is a bug that came with this month’s update.

When you submit grades directly in the grade book (i.e. override in a grading cell) the Category Total (if you are using categories) and the Course Total automatically become overridden as well. The student will not see progress throughout the course, but will only see an initial grade submitted (i.e. the Course Total has been frozen from the beginning of your grading process).

The Moodle community has started documenting this issue and making efforts to fix it. We are hoping that the issue will resolve soon.

We recommend the method Simple Assignment Setup and Grading (written guide) or Simple Assignment Setup and Grading (two-minute video). There are no issues when grades are submitted through the assignment.

We apologize for the inconvenience this issue creates.
