This Friday, Feb. 21, we’ll be selling homemade chicken tamales in the Bruin Den for $2 each! This is hosted by students in the ENPR 300 class and is supporting your student entrepreneurs at George Fox.
Tamales will be available for purchase during lunchtime, from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. We have a limited supply, so get them before they’re gone!

Ty Dye, head of the company Unlock Limits Coaching Groups, will share on “Equipping 101 – What Every Leader Needs To Know” at this month’s Newberg meeting of the Christian Chamber of Commerce of the Northwest. The meeting is from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Villa Academic Complex.
Dye is a certified teacher, speaker and teacher with the John Maxwell Team and was recently part of an international group that trained 24,000 leaders in Guatemala. Dye spent more than 20 years in sales and sales management, developing teams in multiple companies and industries. He is passionate about helping others develop in their leadership skills and unleashing their God-given strengths.

The works of Beethoven will be performed on the George Fox stage when Bösendorfer Educational Artist Kenn Willson presents his “Encounters with Beethoven†concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in Bauman Auditorium.
Employees and students are entitled to one complimentary ticket each. They can be picked up in the Box Office located in the Pennington House. Additional tickets may be purchased on this page.
Willson will perform German Dance #1, Sonata Op. 31 #3, Sonata Op. 27 #2 (“Moonlightâ€) and Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee (Tune: Ode to Joy). He has traveled to Vienna, Austria, and to the Piano Academy in Recanati, Italy, to perform. He is also known throughout the region for his “Encounters with Beethoven†performances. In 2005, Willson was named a Bösendorfer Educational Artist by the Viennese Piano Manufacturing Company.
The Bösendorfer Concert Series, sponsored by the music department, has brought in world-renowned classical pianists since its inception in 2007. Past performers have included Baruch Meir, Gianluca Luisi of Italy and Valentina Lisitsa of Ukraine.

Community members are encouraged to join the George Fox University Master Chorus at it continues Tuesday rehearsals in preparation for an April 25 performance of John Rutter’s composition Mass of the Children.
On that evening, Master Chorus members will join with the university’s Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, select Women’s Ensemble from Newberg High School, and the Chehalem Symphony Orchestra for a 7:30 p.m. performance in Bauman Auditorium.
Rehearsals will be every Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Ross 208 (choir room). Participants are expected to have previous choir experience, average to above-average sight reading skills and the ability to attend rehearsals. There is no audition or cost, and director’s permission is required. Music will be supplied by the university.

The university community is invited to come hear Dr. Michael Tso, director of training at His Mansion Ministries in New Hampshire, tonight (Monday).
Dr. Tso will present twice on campus. His first presentation, entitled “Hope for the Hopeless: Does Psychology, Science and/or Faith Provide Substantive Hope for Hurting People?,” is scheduled from 11:40 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Cap and Gown Room B & C.
His second talk is titled “Wounded People with Wounded Healers: How to Journey with Strugglers (Addiction/Trauma/Mental Health) Faithfully and Honestly?” and will be presented from 3:40 to 5 p.m. in Hoover 103.
Students interested in an eight-week summer internship, a semester internship, or post-graduate employment with His Mansion Ministries are encouraged to attend one of the sessions. Dr. Tso is also well-connected with a number of other potential medical, mental health and ministry setting internships around the U.S.
His Mansion Ministries is a faith-based residential recovery community serving adults ages 18-35 struggling with substance abuse, sexual addictions, eating disorders and mental health issues.

Are some of your students struggling with tests? Please encourage them to attend an Academic Resource Center workshop, “How to Get A’s on All Your Tests (or at Least Become a Better Test-Taker),” this Friday, Feb. 21, from 10:40 to 11:30 a.m. in EHS 125. This workshop was originally scheduled for earlier this month but was rescheduled because of our snow day on Feb. 7.
Rick Muthiah, associate director of learning support services, will cover several strategies for improving performance on tests. If you have students you feel would benefit from this workshop, please encourage them to attend.

This week Denny Lawrence, director of Bon Appetit on campus, will speak about knowing God. His message is titled, “Walking on Water.†You are welcome to come, listen, ask questions and be encouraged.
International Chapel is eligible for chapel elective credit. It is designed to help us better understand what it means to be a Christian.

Plan to attend meetings about the Performance Review Process today (Thursday) and/or tomorrow (Friday).
In Newberg, we’ll meet from 11 a.m. to noon today in Hoover 105. All staff and administrators on the Newberg campus should plan to attend this meeting if at all possible.
In Portland, we’ll meet from 4 to 5 p.m. this afternoon in Room 155 (please note change in location). All staff and administrators at the Portland Center should plan to attend if at all possible.
All supervisors should plan to attend training this afternoon from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in VAC 117 OR from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. tomorrow morning (Friday), also in VAC 117.
There will be a webinar of each session for those who are unable to be there, but you are strongly encouraged to attend in person.

Don’t forget to register for the Faith and Culture Writers Conference taking place on the Newberg campus Friday and Saturday, March 7-8. A number of well-known writers will be on campus, including Sarah Bessey, Tony Kriz, Sarah Thebarge and Deidra Riggs, among others.
The current adult registration price of $75 per person is good through this Friday, Feb. 14. After that, the price increases to $85 (Feb. 15 through March 6) and $95 (March 7-8).
