The George Fox football team has its first two away games of the season scheduled on Friday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. against Willamette University and on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1:30 p.m. against Linfield College.

Willamette University does not sell general admission tickets in advance, so you will need to purchase your tickets at the gate the day of the game. To purchase tickets in advance for the Linfield game, please visit this link.

Our next home football game is Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 1:30 p.m. against the University of Puget Sound. Employees and students will be admitted with their ID cards; other fans can purchase tickets in advance here.

The university’s Annual Security Report is now available. This report is required by federal law and contains policy statements and crime statistics for the school. The policy statements address the school’s policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security (for example, policies for responding to emergency situations).

Three years’ worth of statistics are included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in or on off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the school and on public property within or immediately adjacent to the campus. This report is available online at this link. You may also request a paper copy from the security services office.

Can you think of a colleague who would be deserving of this award for October? If someone comes to mind, please send an email to Peggy Kilburg by Tuesday, Oct. 21, with a summary of the person’s recent contributions and any other information that makes him or her deserving of this award.

The President’s Executive Leadership Team will select the recipient from the nominations submitted, and the winner will be honored with a citation and a $100 Visa gift card at our community meeting on Oct. 30.

Congratulations again to Rich Bass and Kathy Harris on being named September Employees of the Month.

The university community is welcome to an opening reception for artist Andries Fourie and the show “From Slaves to Matriarchs.” The reception is scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, in the Minthorne Gallery. It will be preceded by an artist talk from 4:10 to 5 p.m. in Hoover 105.

The show is a site-specific installation that explores the influence of East and Southeast-Asian slave women on contemporary South African culture. The show will be up in the Minthorne Gallery through Friday, Oct. 24.

If know students who have not declared a major and are unsure of what to study, please encourage them to join us at an event sponsored by the IDEA Center.

Winter and Summer Serve applications are open!

Winter Serve trips are week-long trips Jan. 3-10. This year we are going to Portland with HomePDX; Twin Rocks; Puyallup, Wash., with the One Another Foundation; and Oklahoma with Forward Edge to work with tornado relief. Applications to be a student leader are also available. If you have been on a Serve Trip before, consider joining a team as a student leader!

Summer Serve (Spilgrimages) applications are also open! These are two- to three-week trips in May and June. This year we are going to Romania/Moldova with Word Made Flesh; Haiti with Forward Edge to work with earthquake relief; China with Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends; Kenya with Open Arms International; and Nicaragua with Association for Baptists for World Evangelism.

Event Description
When we write, we communicate – sometimes more than we intend to. Professors are primarily concerned with what you are thinking and how you have engaged with the ideas in the course, but they also have a hard time ignoring grammatical errors. This workshop will help you understand, identify, and correct the top 10 grammatical errors that annoy professors the most.

Join other knitters, crocheters and craftspeople during the lunch hour (noon to 1 p.m.) on Wednesdays in the International Center/Multicultural House. Bring your own lunch and craft project. All crafting abilities welcome. Beginner knitting lessons will be offered.

The Newberg Fire Department will create a structure burn in the quad at 11:45 a.m. today (Tuesday) as part of the university’s fire safety program. The event is organized by the student life office and is designed to educate people on how quickly fires can spread.

Financial affairs wants to remind you of some check request and expense report procedures:

• Please use 2014/15 forms which can be found at this link.
• Please use the new chart of accounts, which is effective for the 2014/15 fiscal year. All check requests must be signed by the requester and expense reports signed by the payee. You cannot approve your own check requests or expense reports, regardless of dollar amount.
• A printed name, signature and date are required on all forms. Forms will be returned if a printed name, signature and date are not completed.

Authorizations
Requester/payee must get the appropriate approval signature before sending the form to financial affairs. Forms will be returned if the appropriate signatures are not completed.

• Budget Manager – may authorize expenses up to $1,000
• Department Head – may authorize expenses up to $2,499
• Dean – may authorize expenses up to $4,999
• VP – must authorize all expenses over $5,000
• COO – must authorize all expenses over $25,000

Purchase Orders (PO) should be used when ordering merchandise or services for which an invoice requiring payment will be sent to the university. It is the approved method for ordering that the university has adopted and should be used whenever possible.

Join us tonight (Monday) for this week’s installment the “Islam and the West” Liberal Arts and Critical Issues series in Hoover 105.

The session runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and features Harris Zafar, national spokesperson for the Ahmadiyyah Muslim Community. He will speak on “Demystifying Islam: Major Misconceptions.” The same session is presented from 5 to 6 p.m.; however, it is recommended that the general public attend the evening session, if possible.

Linda Brock, a recruiter/mobilizer for Christian Missionary Fellowship International on the West Coast, will be on campus today (Monday) from 5:45 to 7 p.m. in the Cap and Gown Room to talk about the organization’s internship program.

For 65 years, CMF has taken Christ to the nations by recruiting, equipping and sending people committed to reaching the world with God’s love. Its internship program provides a unique option for students to experience missions in the real world.

REACH is an eight-week summer CMF internship for college freshmen and above considering missionary service. Teams of interns travel to countries where experienced CMF missionaries guide and involve them in missions on the field. The program puts interns right in the middle of what God is doing in a variety of CMF ministries around the world. Internship dates for summer 2015 are May 28 to Aug. 1.

Are you willing to facilitate a small group during our meeting? We are looking for K-12 and higher ed educators, and tech-focused business women. We will be asking you to share a bit about your work, and then share how technology is influencing changes within your work, home and personal life.
