Don’t forget to join us tonight (Monday) for the “Islam and the West” Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture featuring Kambiz Ghaneabassiri, associate professor of religion and humanities at Reed College. The session runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.
Ghaneabassiri will present “Islam in America,” in which he will provide an overview of the history of Muslims in America, from colonial times to the aftermath of 9/11. The same session is presented from 5 to 6 p.m.; however, it is recommended that the general public attend the evening session, if possible.

Here are some reminders about check request and expense report procedures:
- Please use 2014/15 forms which can be found at this link.
- Please use the new chart of accounts, which is effective for the 2014/15 fiscal year. All check requests must be signed by the requester and expense reports signed by the payee. You cannot approve your own check requests or expense reports, regardless of dollar amount.
- A printed name, signature and date are required on all forms. Forms will be returned if a printed name, signature and date are not completed.
Authorizations
Requester/payee must get the appropriate approval signature before sending the form to financial affairs. Forms will be returned if the appropriate signatures are not completed.
- Budget Manager – may authorize expenses up to $1,000
- Department Head – may authorize expenses up to $2,499
- Dean – may authorize expenses up to $4,999
- VP – must authorize all expenses over $5,000
- COO – must authorize all expenses over $25,000
Purchase Orders (PO) should be used when ordering merchandise or services for which an invoice requiring payment will be sent to the university. It is the approved method for ordering that the university has adopted and should be used whenever possible.

Mail Services would like to kindly remind you it is crucial that all department mailings and outgoing deliveries include the five-segment chart of accounts number (e.g., 54510-10000-610100-MG130-ALL). This applies to Print Services as well. All department print jobs must be accompanied with the 5-segment chart of accounts number.
Print requests/jobs and outgoing mail/packages will be delayed if the new chart of accounts number is missing.
Thank you for your help making sure the account numbers are supplied to allow us to process your mail and printing requests in a timely manner through this  accounting transition.

Staff, faculty and adjuncts: Our ticket writers have found a number of your cars parked in staff lots without current staff or adjunct permits. If your white hang tag is in shards, please bring the pieces to the security office so we can issue you a new one. If it is AWOL, it’s a mere $5 cash to procure a new one. Forgot to switch it from the other car? Again, it’s just a mere $5 cash to purchase one per vehicle and make your mornings run smoother!
Adjuncts: Your orange hang tag permit should read, “Valid until 12-31-14.” If yours is ancient, please bring it to the security office so we can update your registration and get you a 2014 permit. If you’ve made updates to your vehicle registrations, please contact Nadine Kincaid so that the records and database can be updated and your permits assigned to your new vehicles.

George Fox and Willamette University are co-hosting a two-night debate on the topic “Did America Have a Christian Founding†on successive Thursday evenings in September. Both events are free.
The debate will feature Mark David Hall, the Herbert Hoover Distinguished Professor of Politics at George Fox, and Steven K. Green, a professor in Willamette University’s School of Law. They are among the nation’s leading experts on the relationship between church and state in America.
The opening debate is scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, in Hoover 105. The second session is set from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in Room 121 of Willamette’s School of Law, 245 Winter St., in Salem, Ore. A question-and-answer time will follow the discussions both evenings.
The series is sponsored by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute and cosponsored by the William Penn Honors Program of George Fox and Willamette’s Center for Religion, Law & Democracy.

We are so thrilled at the turnout, the Bruin pride and the electricity that filled Stoffer Family Stadium last Saturday as the Bruin football team took the field for the first time in 46 years. What a day! It was one that we’ll all remember for a long time to come.

Mark A. Noll, PhD, the Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame, will present the lecture “The Challenges for Christian Learning: Looking Back, Looking Ahead” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, in Wood-Mar Auditorium on the Newberg campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Noll is the author of numerous books, including The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind and The Civil War as a Theological Crisis. During his years at Wheaton College, he was a co-founder of the Institute for the Study of American Evangelicals. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and, in 2006, received the National Endowment for the Humanities medal at a White House ceremony.
The lecture is sponsored by the William Penn Honors Program. A reception immediately following the lecture will be held for those interested in learning more about the honors program.

Michael Ward, PhD, professor of apologetics at Houston Baptist University and director of the C.S. Lewis Centre in Oxford, England, will visit the Newberg campus to present a lecture, “The Heavens are Telling the Glory of God: C.S. Lewis, Narnia and the Planets,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, in Bauman Auditorium. There is no charge to attend.
Ward is a leading expert on the works of C.S. Lewis and the author of Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C.S. Lewis. He is senior research fellow at Blackfriars Hall in the University of Oxford and co-editor of The Cambridge Companion to C.S. Lewis. He presented the BBC television documentary, The Narnia Code (2009). As an Anglican clergyman, he served as chaplain of St Peter’s College at the University of Oxford from 2009 to 2012 and as chaplain of Peterhouse at the University of Cambridge from 2004 to 2007.
The lecture is sponsored by the William Penn Honors Program. A reception immediately following the lecture will be held for those interested in learning more about the honors program.
