This is a final reminder that today (Tuesday) at 4:30 p.m. is the deadline to have your Oregon ballots delivered to the drop site at University Mail Services. We take ballots for all Oregon counties, and no postage is required. Out-of-state ballots do require postage.

As we roll into November and the season of Thanksgiving, do you have a colleague you are especially thankful for this month – someone who might deserve to be named November Employee of the Month? If someone comes to mind, please submit a nomination via email to Peggy Kilburg by Friday, Nov. 14, with a summary of this person’s recent contributions and any other information that makes him or her deserving of this award.
The President’s Executive Leadership Team will select the recipient from the nominations submitted, and the winner will be honored with a citation and a $100 Visa gift card at our next community meeting.

The Fall Staff Conference is this Wednesday, Nov. 5, and we are looking forward to an exciting day with all support staff! Please complete this registration form and select your break-out session if you haven’t done so already. The theme of this year’s conference is “Sowing, Watering, Reaping.”
The conference is from 8 to 11:30 a.m., with breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m. for early risers. Our keynote speaker is Deb Mumm-Hill, director of the university’s IDEA Center. The conference will be at Mountain Park Church, 40 McNary Parkway, in Lake Oswego. Please note: Due to allergies, please do not wear perfume or cologne at this event.

Join us tonight (Monday) for the “Islam and the West” Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture featuring alumna Suhila Haidary, who will speak on the topic “Trapped in the Crossfire: Women and Children Under the Taliban.” The session runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.
Haidary was a child of 6 when the Taliban took over Afghanistan. She will share on the experience of women and children during and after Taliban rule, highlighting the artificial divisions and injustices created by radical Islamist rule.

Know of students who need help with MLA style? Encourage them to attend a workshop, “An Introduction to MLA Style,” this Thursday, Nov. 6, from 10:50 to 11:40 a.m. in Hoover 105.
In this session, Kathy Heininge, associate professor of English, will present key elements of the Modern Language Association style for essays and other written works. MLA is commonly used in humanities courses such as English, literature and modern languages. The workshop is sponsored by the Academic Resource Center.
Do you enjoy rock music? The music department is offering the class for you: The History of Rock and Roll (MUSI 285-B Special Topics #3747)! It will be offered during Spring 2015 and meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 to 11:50 a.m. in Ross 208.
This course will be a survey of the origins of rock and roll to the popular music of today. For more information about the class, contact Sophia Tegart at stegart@georgefox.edu.
Arrangements have been made with the Yamhill County Elections Office for Mail Services to serve as a drop site for all Oregon ballots. We accept any Oregon ballot (any county), and there is no postage necessary.

If you are interested in learning basic Chinese phrases and a little more about Chinese culture, join us today (Friday) from noon to 12:50 p.m. in the International Center/Cultural House, as our visiting professors from China will teach Chinese language and culture to employees.
This is the first session that will meet weekly Friday at the same time and location. We hope you will be able to join us!

Special operations and restricted fund reporting is now available in PeopleSoft. Under the MyGFU report menu, select “Restricted Fund Summary.†This summary report will give you balance forward information as well as any 14/15 activity.
This can be used for all Special Operations, Restricted Gifts and Agency Funds. Remember, you may now have two funds – one special operations fund (unrestricted, which will begin with a 1XXXX) and a restricted fund (which will begin with a 3XXXX). You can use the wild card (%) for the department/cost center field and the program code.
Previous-year data is also available in this report by using your old cost center number and the 2014 fiscal year.

The BlueZone Store will be finalizing its midyear inventory on Friday, Oct. 31, and will close at 2 p.m. The store will reopen on Monday, Nov. 3, with regular hours.
The Portland Youth Philharmonic will perform a preview concert opening their 91st season in Bauman Auditorium on Monday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. There is no admission charge and seating is general.
Th program includes Richard Wagner’s Dawn and Siegfried’s Rhine Journey from Gotterdamerung; Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances; and Norman Leyden’s Serenade for Strings.
